The Yankees won against the Baltimore Orioles 11-3 on the second-ever CUNY Day. To my fellow members, I wanted to take a moment to say how much I have enjoyed my time here as the Human Resources Director at The Ticker. It’s hard to believe that my time here is coming to an end. I’m grateful for the opportunities I was given, especially in learning how The Ticker operates and how a human resources department interconnects with everything.
If you had told me freshman year that I would have the great opportunity to take part in something that would change my life in every single way, I would have laughed in your face. But during my time at The Ticker, I made lifelong friendships and developed skills that will serve me not only in post-grad but also in life. I joined The Ticker in 2023 with the goal of contributing occasionally to slowly build a portfolio, but I never expected it to become something I care so deeply about.
It’s been a long time. My time at The Ticker began in fall 2022. Truth be told, I filled out an application for copy editing and photography because I was bored. I had a four-hour gap on two days and a three-hour gap on two other days. A bored freshman wouldn’t have anticipated the impact such a decision would have on his career in art and marketing, as well as his entire life. It’s not like I hadn’t done journalism before. A class from high school may have been the pull toward The Ticker.
The Ticker has given me so much that I will be forever grateful for. Firstly, The Ticker gave me my career. When I entered Baruch College, I didn’t know what I wanted to do or what I wanted to major in. I first found The Ticker table at a club fair where I briefly met then-Editor-in-Chief Emanuela Gallo. I attended a general interest meeting, where I felt brave enough to sign up to write for arts & culture. I knew I liked writing, so I figured I’d give it a try.

Creatine is available in pills, powders and even gummies, and are marketed largely toward athletes and gymgoers for improved strength and performance. However, a growing body of scientific work complicates this image, offering new insight into the power of creatine.
In a recent study, researchers found that infrasound can still affect humans even though we cannot consciously hear it. This research may help explain how the environment affects cortisol levels. Infrasound is defined as low-frequency sound waves below 20 hertz. These vibrations can occur in storms, traffic and industrial equipment. Some species rely on infrasound as a form of communication.
As graduation season begins, Baruch College students feel the loss of not having the opportunity to walk on stage. A lower senior, Kiana Domenech, created a petition and the Instagram account “let us walk” Baruch,” to have graduating students walk. The petition has over 2,000 signatures. “We deserve to be recognized and heard,” she said.
Genetics is often explained through charts, lab reports and medical terminology that can feel distant from patients’ lives. But for some rare disease advocates, music has become a way to make these stories easier to hear. By translating genetic sequences into sound, a group of physicians, composers and patient advocates explored how art can raise awareness for conditions that are often overlooked.
Chidozie Wilson Okeke, a Nigerian national, was dragged out of a Brooklyn hospital and arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for overstaying his expired tourist visa on May 2, leading to hundreds of Bushwick residents filling the streets outside of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. His arrest sparked a chaotic, five-hour standoff in which multiple officers were injured and nine residents were taken into custody.
