Following a recent Instagram post, actress Anne Hathaway has officially disappeared from the spotlight after joking that she planned to disappear in a “plume of smoke” when her final movie of 2026, “Verity,” premiered. Hathaway is an American actress and producer best-known for her versatile roles in major film productions.

Almost a year after the release of her twelfth studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Taylor Swift released four new songs in “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” album. Despite previously stating there would be no bonus tracks, the release shocked fans and quickly claimed the top four spots on Spotify’s Top 50 Global Chart. Swift’s new tracks describe public scrutiny, past relationships and true love, leaving the public divided over whether they shine or fall short of the singer’s older work.

The Global Citizen Festival, a fundraising concert set to take place on Sept. 26 at Central Park’s Great Lawn, was canceled due to weather concerns regarding nor’easter. “Forecasts predict dangerous conditions and circumstances in which we cannot safely bring tens of thousands of Global Citizens, artists, crew, vendors, partners and staff onto the Great Lawn, let alone all of the equipment required. Safety has to come first. This is the first time in 14 years we’ve had to cancel.

Baruch College hosted its second annual “Háblame Dulce” on Oct. 1, bringing everyone together for a spoken word and art showcase celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month through culture, creativity and community. “Háblame Dulce,” which translates to “talk to me sweetly” in Spanish, focuses on artistic expression and student voices. The event was organized by the Black and Latino Studies Department, Black Male Initiative, Office of Student Life, the Percy E.

Converse posted its latest sneaker ad, which has since been taken down, to its social media channels in mid-September. The ad, which was originally part of an international campaign, was removed following severe public backlash over claims of alleged racist imagery.

Elizabeth Wollman is a music professor at Baruch College; she was 11 when John Lennon was killed in 1980. What Wollman remembers most is how people reacted. She watched the news as crowds gathered outside Lennon’s apartment building and inside Central Park to grieve together. “It just had such an impact on me that people would feel so very, very close to somebody they’d never met because he made music that they liked,” Wollman told The Ticker. That moment shaped her career.

A New York City based ceramicist and designer went viral on social media when she posed the question, “What if missing tiles don’t become a maintenance request, what if they instead become tiny canvases for artists to fill?” The Korean American artist, Eujue, noticed that the “E” tile within “Delancey” at the Delancey Street-Essex Street subway station on the Lower East Side was missing. Eujue decided to fill the missing tile gap with her own artwork.

October 13, 2026 Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Mayor’s Office to Combat Antisemitism officially launched New York City’s first municipal Strategy which aims to address antisemitic incidents affecting Jewish New Yorkers. The plan is expected to strengthen Jewish institutions and communities across the city.

The Starbucks Corporation location at 50 Lexington Ave., a popular spot among Baruch students, closed its doors permanently on Sept. 27. The company closed approximately 250 stores across North America, only 1% of the company’s locations in the region. Starbucks announced the closures on Sept. 24 and said the affected locations either were not meeting the company’s financial expectations or did not consistently provide the customer and employee experience Starbucks wanted.
