HARDIN– Coming off a tough loss to Lutheran South Academy a week ago, the Hardin Hornets came back in a big way by jumping out to a big halftime lead in beating Beaumont Kelly 57-0 on Friday night at Hornet Stadium. Thomas Gallaspy got the scoring going for Hardin by crossing the goal line from 1-yard out, and the Hornets led 7-0. The Hornet defense went to work with a big safety by Cade Drake, making it 9-0. HOUSTON— Earius Ceasar rushed for 207 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as the East Chambers Buccaneers rolled over St. Pius X 56-14 on Friday night at Kubiak Stadium. The Buccaneers improved to 3-0 and will host Hardin Thursday night in Winnie in a big non-district contest. Ceasar had four rushing touchdowns and added a 26-yard touchdown reception. Brycen Wells passed for 125 yards on 4 of 9 attempts, while Colby West was the leading receiver with two catches for 40 yards.

ANAHUAC— The Anahuac Panthers had a challenging start on Thursday night at Kyle White Stadium in a non-district matchup against the Liberty Panthers, falling behind by 13 points in the first quarter. However, Anahuac rebounded impressively, delivering their best performance of the season in the final three quarters and securing a 35-24 victory over Liberty. Liberty used a 20-yard interception return early to get great field position that led to their first score of the night.

HARDIN— The Anahuac Lady Panthers traveled to Hardin on Tuesday night and opened district play with the Lady Hornets. The Lady Panthers battled hard but fell to Hardin 25-13, 25-11, and 25-11. Trailing 7-4 in the opening game, Brayli Van Vickle nailed a kill for Anahuac, making it 7-5. Hardin then went on a 16-6 run before Addi DeHoyos scored with a kill, making it 23-13. The Lady Hornets would close out game one by scoring the next two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

DAYTON— The Barbers Hill Eagles (3-0) amassed 406 yards of total offense, while the defense generated three turnovers in a 40-20 win over the Dayton Broncos during non-district play on Friday night at Bronco Stadium. The game started with the Broncos' Chase James fielding the opening kickoff at his goal line and bringing it all the way back 100 yards for a touchdown. The score was nullified, bringing the ball all the way back to their own 15-yard line.

ANAHUAC— As the new fiscal year approaches, the school board passed a budget and tax, as well as set goals for the future. The Anahuac Independent School District met on Monday, Aug. 24, setting the budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year at $20.7 million, about a $1.2 million decrease from the 2025-26 FY. Board Trustee Carlton Carrington explained the deficit, saying the budget is created conservatively. “It’s a good thing that we’re in the position we’re in,” Carrington said.

AUSTIN– Last week, the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) rejected a policy change recommendation that could have affected over 50,000 coastal property owners with secondary residences. The TWIA's decision not to cancel insurance coverage for secondary homes along the coast is particularly relevant to House District 23 Rep. Terri Leo Wilson, who represents Chambers and Galveston counties.

WINNIE– The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that “Cocaine is still illegal” after a recent traffic stop that yielded five kilos of the substance. That stop came when deputies executed a traffic stop on Wednesday, Sept. 2 on Interstate 10 near Oak Island Road near Winnie. The vehicle was a Chevy Malibu, driven by Israel Tanguma, 31, of Houston. Deputies were assisted by a Texas Department of Public Safety K9 unit, which alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle's trunk.

ANAHUAC– A burn ban recently put in place has already been lifted after rains moved into the area last week. Following the arrival of Tropical Storm Edouard, Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia terminated the burn ban put into place in late August on Wednesday, Sept. 2. “The Chambers County Burn Ban has been lifted.
