Several people were feared dead and others severely burnt on Thursday after a petrol tanker exploded at Oluku along the Benin-Lagos Expressway in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, destroying buildings, shops, vehicles and other property. The tanker, which was loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), reportedly fell earlier in the day and spilt its contents around the busy Oluku market area.

Former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mustapha Isah has lost his father, the Clan Head (Ovbiotse) of Ivbiokhulotor in Ubuneke Ivbiaro, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, His father, Chief Isah Umoru Osikhekha passed away at the age of 96. Chief Osikhekha was a devout Muslim, a community leader, a philanthropist and a fighter for justice. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his children on Tuesday, October 14, 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that political parties that believe their candidates were wrongly omitted from the final governorship list have 14 days from the date of publication to notify the Commission. The Commission said the provision is contained in Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026 and fixed October 24, 2026, as the deadline for such notification.
