If you’re a business owner considering a sale, whether to a trade buyer or through a management buyout, there is a strong commercial case for increasing, not reducing, marketing activity in the years leading up to exit. Sixty per cent of searches now end without a click. Users get their answers directly on the results page and never visit a website. For businesses that depend on organic traffic, that’s a problem. Google’s AI Overviews are the main driver. Research shows they can cause a 15 to 64 per cent decline in organic traffic depending on industry and search type.

For more than 30 years, I’ve been helping individuals and organisations of every size and sector raise their profile. I’ve built and strengthened reputations. I’ve positioned people as experts in their field and businesses as leaders in their market. In short, I’ve contributed significantly to their growth and success. What my colleagues and I do isn’t rocket science, but it is a professional discipline. It requires training, skill and an ability to constantly adapt in a fast-moving environment.
Our managing director, Ruth Shearn, recently attended a Dealmakers event, organised by Insider. Here’s her take on the event and the current state of the corporate finance and private equity market.
