The Peddlers Passage brings together local makers, vintage collectors, and small businesses under one roof in a curated, whimsical marketplace- complete with soft medieval-core music drifting through the shelves of curiosities and delightful trinkets. Owner Bianna Workman said the idea for The Peddlers Passage came from the need for more vendor and local business opportunities in Northwest Tucson.

From Sept. 4 through Sept. 13, more than 120 local restaurants will be creating menus of discounted prix fixe meals that range from $15 to $55, encouraging the community to get out, support local restaurants and enjoy a delicious meal.

A restaurant power couple from Phoenix with a trio of James Beard Award nominations and a half-dozen restaurants made inroads in Tucson last week, opening what could be the city’s first Chihuahuan-style Mexican food restaurant and tortilleria. While there’s so much to love about Tucson, here are some things I’ve found myself more than a little obsessed with recently.

Starting college comes with a lot of new things to figure out: classes, roommates, campus shortcuts and, perhaps most importantly, where to go when you need a break from all of it. If you’re new to the University of Arizona, it can be easy to stay within the few blocks surrounding campus, especially if you don’t have a car. But some of Tucson’s most popular spots are only a streetcar ride away.

From a distance, Jalene Stradling’s cake looked like a stack of newspapers tied together with blue-and-white string. The pages appeared slightly worn and curled at the edges, with a familiar Arizona Daily Star front page resting on top. Its main headline read: “Local Mom/Grandma Triumphs Over Cancer After Unimaginable Loss.” But every part of the newspaper was edible, and the woman pictured on the front page was Stradling’s personal hero: her mother, Judy Boren.
