Jim went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, just two weeks after his 84th birthday. Mr. Harrod possessed more courage, compassion, integrity, strength, and determination than anyone with such a gentle, loving, and kind soul is usually gifted.
Larry Lee Miles
Larry Lee Miles was called home Friday morning June 2nd 2023 at the age of 91 while resting at home on the Miles family ranch. Larry was the son of Emmett and Maggie Miles. He was born at home on the Miles family ranch June 24th 1931. Describing his early days Dad wrote Pretty soon I came along with an older brother and a younger sister and we grew up barefooted and wild looking most of the time. The kids went to a one room school house that Grandpa Emmett built on the ranch.
Steve Americus Milum
Steve Americus Milum was born October 8, 1952 at the old Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio to Carlisle Glenn Milum and Edna (Stischer) Milum. He passed away at his home in George West on May 30, 2023 at the age of 70. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Edna Milum; siblings, Carl Milum and Ruth Milum Anthony; and one son, Michael Milum.
Adelina (Casas) Gutierrez
Adelina (Casas) Gutierrez, 79, of George West, Texas, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18, 2023. She is now free from pain and has been reunited at the gates of Heaven with her beloved Lord and Savior as well as her parents, Andres and Hilaria (Gonzales) Casas. Adelina was born Nov. 9, 1943 in Beeville. She married the love of her life, Daniel Gutierrez, on April 1, 1960 in George West where they made their home and raised their family.
Rosendo Martinez II
Rosendo Martinez II: 1941 - 2023 A very rich man in family, Mr. Martinez came from Mexico to make a home and a life with the love of his life, Alicia Lane Martinez of Oakville, Texas, who passed away on October 29, 2022. Together for 45 years, they were blessed with six daughters, one son, fifteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mr. Martinez was loved and honored by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Newcomer set to represent GWISD District 4
George West Independent School District stretches easterly from the city limits to the western banks of Lake Corpus Christi. After a canvassing of votes on May 17, citizens in this far reach of the school district will be represented by school board newcomer Marlin Williams. During GWISD’s push to introduce a Modified Instructional Calendar (which includes 4-day school-weeks), Williams was an outspoken critic of the new calendar.
Diana “Nana” Ramirez
Diana “Nana” Ramirez, 53, of Three Rivers, Texas, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. Diana was born June 12, 1969 in San Antonio to Benito T. and Margaret (O’Brien) Ramirez. She was a graduate of Three Rivers High School and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved painting, coloring and listening to music. Diana, lovingly known as “Mimi” by her nieces and nephews, as well as “Bubbles” to others, was a happy-go-lucky and cheerful person.
Multiple injuries in killer bee attack
They came from a vacant house on Archer street, a buzzing ribbon of rage, maddened by the intrusion of a ghastly sound upon their territory: the roar of a lawnmower. The hapless man tending the lawn was a victim of circumstance, unaware of the danger he was courting. When police and animal control arrived, they found the man had staggered to the middle of the street, screaming and begging for help. He was covered in stinging bees.
Unofficial Election Results for Live Oak County
Live Oak County elections were held on May 6th. Both of the county’s school districts and the City of Three Rivers had seats to be filled. The City of Three Rivers had one mayoral and two alderman seats on the ballot. Incumbent Mayor Felipe Martinez ran unopposed and tallied 258 votes at the polling booth. There was a three-way race for Alderperson Place #4. Unofficially, Leon Martinez led the race with 141 votes. Tommy M. House was not far behind with 121 votes.
