Parallels has issued version 27 of its Parallels Desktop for Mac virtualization software with support for macOS 27 Golden Gate. The release brings a new Metal-based graphics driver with OpenGL 4.3 support, expanding the range of professional Windows applications (such as ArcGIS Pro, ZWCAD, and Blender 4.3) and improving performance by up to 2.6 times over the previous graphics driver.

Flying Meat has issued Acorn 8.6.2 with a couple of new screenshot features. The image editor adds an option to Acorn's Dock menu to take a layered screenshot of all your open windows, as well as adds a -screenshot argument to the Acorn shell tool that will take a screenshot of open windows (run acorn -h to get a full list of available options).

1Password has released 1Password 8.12.34, allowing 1Password for Claude to sign in with logins set up to use supported sign-in providers (like Google, Amazon, and Okta).

DEVONtechnologies has released DEVONthink 4.4 (aka Tycho, named after one of the Moon's most prominent craters, itself named after the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe) with an AI assistant and Markdown enhancements.

Rogue Amoeba has updated Audio Hijack 4.6 (full-featured audio recording), Piezo 1.9.10 (simple audio recording), and SoundSource 6.1.2 (audio control utility) with preliminary support for the macOS 27 Golden Gate public beta. While the apps no longer warn you on launch when running Golden Gate, Rogue Amoeba encourages sticking with non-beta macOS releases for the best app experience.

In what has become a September tradition, Apple has announced its annual iPhone event for 9 September 2026, at 10 AM Pacific Time. You can stream it from Apple's website, through the Apple TV app, or on YouTube, and Apple provides an easy way to add it to your calendar. The event's teaser title, "Surprise and shine," was featured on invitations sent not just to select members of the media but also to iCloud users who have signed up for announcements from Apple.

We knew the M6 chip was coming, and it seemed likely Apple would produce an M5 Ultra chip, since it skipped the M4 generation for the Ultra. But a late August release was unexpected and suggests Apple is clearing the decks before the early September announcements of new iPhone and Apple Watch models.
