The Time Extension team is dedicated to bringing you the biggest news and features from the world of retro and classic gaming. While other sites out there are constantly looking to the future and the promise of the "next big thing", here at Time Extension we do the exact opposite – we're looking back into the past to uncover hidden gems, proclaim stone-cold classics and shed a light on the human stories behind some of our favourite games, companies and systems. Time Extension will aim to bring an exciting mixture of news, features, interviews, reviews, guides and much more. Rather than relegate retro and classic gaming news to a footnote as so many other sites do, we want to elevate stories to the next level by talking to the people behind the news – be they developers or fans – and providing the definitive perspective on events in the sphere of classic gaming. We will seek to link the old with new when it comes to covering the many remasters and re-releases that occur within the games industry, as well as 'new' retro hardware – be that the latest micro-console from the likes of Sega, controllers for old systems or even advanced gear, like Optical Drive Emulators and FPGA-based systems. Former Vanillaware artist Yoshio Nishimura has just released the RPG Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle on PC, and he's been speaking to RPG Site about the involvement of the legendary composer Hitoshi Sakimoto. Sakimoto is famous for his soundtracks for games such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, Radiant Silvergun, Gradius V and Valkyria Chronicles, and has previously worked closely with Vanillaware via Basiscape, the company he founded in 2002.

News Konami Arcade Archives Konami's 1987 'Hyper Crash' arrives on modern platforms this week One of Konami's more obscure arcade titles is making the jump to modern consoles this week as part of the Arcade Archives & Arcade Archives 2 series. Hyper Crash is a 3rd-person racing game from Konami, which was released in arcades in 1987. It saw players get behind the wheel of a fast car and given the goal of reaching six checkpoints spread across a single course.

We have some interesting news for fans of Japanese role-playing games. Nippon Ichi Software's PlayStation RPG Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is coming to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 this week, as part of Console Archives. Released in Japan in 1998 and in North America two years later (courtesy of Atlas USA), Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure was a game designed by Disgaea creator Sohei Niikawa, who was reportedly working in the company's sales & marketing department at the time.

Back in 2013, a Kickstarter campaign was launched for the ambitious Project Phoenix, a JRPG helmed by Hiroaki Yura. It would smash its funding goal and earn $1,014,600, yet, over a decade later, it remains unreleased.
