While other sites out there are constantly looking to the future and the promise of the "next big thing", here at Time Extension we do the exact opposite – we're looking back into the past to uncover hidden gems, proclaim stone-cold classics and shed a light on the human stories behind some of our favourite games, companies and systems.
Time Extension will aim to bring an exciting mixture of news, features, interviews, reviews, guides and much more. Rather than relegate retro and classic gaming news to a footnote as so many other sites do, we want to elevate stories to the next level by talking to the people behind the news – be they developers or fans – and providing the definitive perspective on events in the sphere of classic gaming.
We will seek to link the old with new when it comes to covering the many remasters and re-releases that occur within the games industry, as well as 'new' retro hardware – be that the latest micro-console from the likes of Sega, controllers for old systems or even advanced gear, like Optical Drive Emulators and FPGA-based systems. A trailer has just dropped for a new, non-"AI slop" static recompilation/PC port of the N64 title Super Smash Bros., which will feature high-frame support, low-input lag, "properly scaled UI for ultrawide displays", and "day-one mod and texture support through N64Recomp". Back in May of this year, as you may recall, a developer named JRickey released an AI-assisted PC port of Smash Bros.
It Looks Like EA Is Bringing Back Wing Commander III, With A Brand New 30th Anniversary Edition Featuring Remastered FMVs
Origin Systems' sci-fi space sim Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is set to receive a 30th-anniversary edition, thanks in part to an internal restoration project led by an EA employee who has been digitising the company's video archive. The news comes courtesy of a talk called "The Lost Tapes - Preserving the EA Vault and Restoring a Classic", which took place at Portland Retro Gaming Expo on Saturday, October 10th.
New F-Zero GX Cheat Codes Discovered For Nintendo Switch 2 and GameCube, But Bring Plenty Of Hands To Input Them
This past weekend, the F-Zero GX community released a litany of newly discovered cheat codes, offering a wealth of powerful shortcuts to unlocking parts, courses and machines in the 2003 sci-fi racing title. The cheats, as reported by NintendoEverything and noted in a video from dedicated player Madeo Joestar (aka "Piccolo"), have been confirmed to work on both the original GameCube release as well as the Nintendo Switch 2 "Nintendo Classics" edition.
ScummVM Now Supports FTL's Legendary 1987 Adventure Dungeon Master
Wonderful news for all dungeon crawlers, as the ScummVM team has announced that FTL Games' genre-defining adventure Dungeon Master is now supported by everybody's favourite Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine. Released in 1987 for the Atari ST, before being ported to myriad computer and console platforms, Dungeon Master is considered one of, if not the defining title of the dungeon-crawler RPG sub-genre.
