One of the (many) nice things about living in L.A. is constantly seeing places you know and love in starring roles on the big and small screen alike (cue the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme). And while scores of TV shows have used Los Angeles as its setting, HBO’s Insecure is one of the best to ever do it. It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since the show first premiered—and five since it took its final bow.
A beloved Knott’s Berry Farm roller coaster is finally reopening after four years Original
After nearly four years, one of Southern California’s most beloved roller coasters is ready to rise—and drop—again. According to People, Knott’s Berry Farm will reopen its Montezooma’s Revenge coaster later this month as MonteZOOMA: The Forbidden Fortress. Altadena just got its first historic district, preserving the community’s architectural legacy
A year and a half after the Eaton Fire reshaped Altadena, Los Angeles County has taken a major step toward preserving part of the community’s architectural heritage. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors recently completed the final legal step to establish the Historic Highlands Historic District, making it both Altadena’s first historic district and the first ever designated under the county’s historic preservation ordinance.
Lapaba brings a brilliantly executed Italian-Korean mashup to Koreatown
Nancy Silverton knows what she's doing. Yes, I'm aware that this is a wild understatement; Osteria Mozza remains a Michelin-starred hot reservation almost two decades after opening, and Silverton was just awarded the James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. Nobody needs me to say she’s great at what she does. But even so, her new Italian-Korean restaurant, Lapaba, is shockingly, deliriously delightful.
Live near the Lucas Museum? You might be able to visit for free. Original
After breaking ground back in 2018, the long-awaited Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is finally opening in September. It announced its ticketing details just last week: Future visitors to this shrine to storytelling can purchase tickets online beginning Tuesday, July 21, at 10am, and general admission tickets will cost $25—a pretty reasonable price, in line with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and LACMA.
One of the only surviving retail blocks of the Palisades Fire will reopen this August Original
Just over a year and a half since the destructive Palisades Fire, one of the few Pacific Palisades retail blocks spared by the blaze is ready to once again open its doors to the public. Palisades Village, the high-end open-air shopping district along Sunset Boulevard, announced that it’ll fully reopen on Saturday, August 15.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker and CJ Ramone set to perform at the Ramones' 50th anniversary tribute in L.A. Original
If you hear a chorus of "Hey! Ho! Let's Go!" echoing through Hollywood Forever Cemetery this summer, don't be alarmed—it's just one of punk's biggest birthday parties. Fifty years after the Ramones released the self-titled debut album that rewired rock music forever, Hollywood Forever Cemetery will host the Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute on August 30, bringing together an all-star lineup led by a newly assembled supergroup called Cretin Family.
One of Tokyo's toughest reservations is hosting a unique six-course dinner in L.A. for one day only Original
For Tokyo food obsessives, scoring a seat at Tonkatsu Narikura is a culinary triumph. Holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a stellar 4.24 rating on Tabelog, Chef Seizo Mitani’s legendary spot is one of Tokyo's toughest reservations to land. But on Monday, July 20, Los Angeles foodies can get a taste of the mastery without booking a flight. For one day only, The Brothers Sushi in Santa Monica is hosting Chef Mitani for an exclusive, cross-Pacific collaboration alongside chef/owner Mark Okuda.
This star of ‘The Office’ just opened a new Honey Baked Ham location in Sherman Oaks Original
Stanley Hudson always knew the value of a good lunch. Now, the man behind one of The Office's most beloved characters is making sure the San Fernando Valley has one more place to get one. Actor Leslie David Baker, who played the famously deadpan, pretzel-loving Stanley on NBC's long-running workplace sitcom, has become the co-owner of a new Honey Baked Ham location in Sherman Oaks.
