Nearly every starting spot on the Tennessee Titans' roster was cemented before training camp, except for the right guard opening. Once free agency kicked off, GM Mike Borgonzi went out and signed veteran Cordell Volson to a one-year contract, while many fans looked to former 5th-round selection Jackson Slater as the obvious choice. The Titans also drafted Fernando Carmona in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The initial race was seemingly between Volson and Slater.

Last year, the Tennessee Titans' offensive line wasn't good, but what is worse is that they weren't physical enough. Without going as far as to call them soft, there were too many times when defenders took liberties with running backs or Cam Ward, and they weren't even confronted about it. Maybe most egregiously, Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair had a late hit on Ward that was suspension worthy, and the offensive line was too busy jogging to the sideline to do anything about it.

The Tennessee Titans have consistently churned the roster throughout training camp. Most recently, they agreed to terms with veteran running back D'Ernest Johnson. Johnson joins the Titans amidst a rash of minor injuries to various members of the running back room, but his addition proves general manager Mike Borgonzi is still analyzing the open market for different opportunities. The Titans' rebuilding roster remains a work in progress.

The Tennessee Titans entered their first preseason game with massive questions surrounding who the team's swing offensive tackle should be. Veteran free-agent signing Austin Deculus once possessed the inside track due to his status, but a lackluster performance against the San Francisco 49ers has him trending in the wrong direction. Meanwhile, sophomore undrafted free agent Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson is starting to emerge as a hopeful option.

Tennessee Titans fans have already watched one young quarterback struggle with accuracy. They don’t want to watch it happen again. Cam Ward isn’t Will Levis, but his 59.8% rookie completion last season rate finished only 1.4 points above Levis’ 58.4% in his only season as a starter. That’s close enough to make the comparison eye-opening. The Levis comparison looks even worse when Ward is stacked against other recent rookies.

The Tennessee Titans entered training camp and the preseason with clearly defined roles at safety. Amani Hooker and Kevin Winston Jr. are the unquestioned starters. Veteran free-agent signing Tony Adams, who reunites with head coach Robert Saleh, is the third safety. The fourth and presumably final safety spot on the 53-man roster is up for grabs. One underdog who deserves more attention than he's getting is Erick Hallett II.

The Tennessee Titans played four different quarterbacks in their 2026 preseason debut, a Week 1 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Starting quarterback Cam Ward struggled before initially giving way to backups Mitchell Trubisky and Will Levis. The Titans' first preseason game ended with fourth-string quarterback Hendon Hooker under center. Ward was 5-of-12 for 57 yards, struggling with accuracy and timing. Levis also completed under 50 percent of his passing attempts, going 3-of-8.

Expectations were understandably sky high for Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate in his preseason debut. Tate has consistently been dominating practice at training camp, so fans were anxious to see him compete against an opponent. Well, he registered zero receptions in the Titans' preseason Week 1 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Tate was targeted on three occasions.

The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason needing to find a solution at right guard after deciding against re-signing Kevin Zeitler. General manager Mike Borgonzi signed veteran guard Cordell Volson in free agency. In a competition with sophomore Jackson Slater and rookie Fernando Caromona, Volson's experience immediately made him the favorite. Training camp began with Volson and Slater competing for the right guard starting gig. There was no clear-cut winner initially.

Between the plethora of personnel and coaching changes made, the Titans are clearly trying to take that next step in the rebuilding process.
