The Guardia Civil is investigating a couple registered in Los Alcázares who appear to be part of the leadership of an alleged criminal network. The investigation concerns suspected fraud, identity theft, money laundering and membership of a criminal organisation. The case was developed by the Valladolid Organic Judicial Police Unit’s Equipo Arroba team. Investigators say the network used the personal details of third parties to open accounts on betting platforms and generate profits.

A British woman in her seventies has died after a parasailing accident in Benidorm, Alicante. A 47-year-old British man, also British, has suffered multiple injuries and has been taken to hospital. Emergency services received the first call at 6.41pm on Tuesday after the accident near the Cola del Caballo mountain, in the direction of Tío Ximo cove. The Guardia Civil received a report at 6.50pm.

The Guardia Civil has dismantled an alleged criminal group linked to the armed robbery of a shop in Cartagena in May. Three men, aged 40, 53 and 73, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery with violence causing injuries, vehicle theft, illegal possession of a firearm, drug offences and membership of a criminal group. Two men allegedly entered the shop carrying a gun and a machete.

Orihuela City Council has awarded a contract for a free shuttle van linking Campoamor with Barranco Rubio beach for the remainder of August and the first 15 days of September. The service will cover the route between Calderón de la Barca Street and Lope de Vega Street, a distance of just over 350 metres with a significant slope. It will operate from 10am to 3pm, making 16 journeys each day.

Police in Elche, Alicante, have carried out the precautionary sealing of more than 7,500 bottles of alcoholic drinks at two shops. Officers allegedly detected the sale of alcohol to people under 18, which is prohibited under Valencian public health legislation. The operation formed part of inspections carried out during the town’s patron saint celebrations. The campaign focused on protecting minors and preventing the sale or supply of alcohol to under-eighteens.

A severe storm has affected Alicante province, bringing wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, intense lightning, heavy showers and hail. The storms moved irregularly across the province, with the worst conditions reported inland, including in Villena, El Pinós and Alcoi. The Provincial Fire Consortium recorded 37 incidents between 17:52 and 20:00 on Monday. Crews responded to fallen trees, damaged façades, awnings, roofs and cables in homes and public areas.

Torrevieja has coordinated a special safety operation for Wednesday’s solar eclipse, when large crowds are expected. The International Auditorium and Antonio Soria Park have been designated as official viewing points, with security services also deployed in sensitive areas. Two special shuttle bus services will operate to the viewing locations. Buses will leave Gregorio Marañón, Hotel Fontana and the bus station at 19:00 and 19:30, with return journeys at 20:40 and 21:15.

Residents and drivers have criticised an artificial intelligence traffic system at the Rocío del Mar–Punta Prima roundabout, on the N-332 between Torrevieja and Orihuela. The system was introduced in May to reduce congestion at one of the busiest points in the Vega Baja, where almost 40,000 vehicles pass each day. The system uses traffic lights, cameras and data collection equipment to adjust traffic flows.

The Guardia Civil has confirmed a large-scale national security operation ahead of the total solar eclipse taking place on 12 August, an event expected to draw significant numbers of visitors across Spain. More than 24,000 officers will be deployed across the country, operating by land, sea and air. The force will reinforce public safety, manage mobility and protect the environment at key observation sites.

National Police have arrested five people in Elche accused of defrauding gold buying businesses and pawn shops with counterfeit jewellery designed to look like solid gold. The suspects, four men and one woman aged between 40 and 48, are being investigated for alleged ongoing fraud and membership of a criminal group. The investigation began after several business owners reported that items sold or pawned as gold later proved to be low-value metals coated with a thick layer of gold.
