Ocean County remembers its residents who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. (Karen Wall/Patch) Twenty-five years have passed since the day that changed life forever in the United States, when nearly 3,000 people died as a result of terrorist attacks. The four planes highjacked by 19 al-Qaida terrorists smashed into New York City's World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the fourth wound up smashed into the earth near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, when the passengers fought back.
Toms River Man Killed In Parkway Crash
TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man died Thursday when his SUV ran off the Garden State Parkway and hit a tree, New Jersey State Police said Friday. Mark Edgell, 57, died in the crash that was reported about 4:45 p.m. Thursday near milepost 103.1 on the southbound side of the Parkway, State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said. He was driving a Nissan SUV that hit the guardrail, ran off the road to the left and hit a tree, Lebron said.

The incident happened Sept. 3, officials said, Mayor Daniel Rodrick and East Dover Elementary School Principal Matthew Gray said.
