We are story architects and cultural stewards; building experiences to advance trans narratives, histories, healing, and –– most importantly -– the human rights of trans people. TransLash Media is a nonprofit organization and digital community made up of conversation starters, documentarians, artists, technologists, activists, and allies who are committed to supporting trans/non-binary/intersex/two-spirit people through trans stories to save trans lives. We do so without censorship and erasure from mainstream media. Despite historic levels of violence, trans people are moving forward and becoming more of ourselves with each passing day. Since our launch in 2018, TransLash Media has partnered with organizations such as WNYC, Samsung, Futuro Media, the National Education Association, Transgender Law Center, The New York Women’s Foundation, Pride Live, and more to create and share trans stories of creativity, courage, resilience, and bravery. This May marks the 77th annual celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month. What initially started as a week-long focus eventually grew to a month-long campaign to educate the public about mental illness, reduce stigma, and promote treatment. Taking care of veterans and soldiers, as well as the general public, in a post-world war II era was critical. As trans people though, we know that awareness is only the starting point. Actually accessing high-quality care is what actually makes a difference.

This season of the Anti-Trans Hate Machine, our producers dove deep into the mechanisms of public education and its funding in an effort to unearth the anti-trans forces trying to dismantle it. Over the course of the investigation, we discovered that the far-right has been weaponizing the concerns of so-called parental rights groups to sow distrust in public schools and privatize them. We’re sharing some of the books that our team found most helpful for our research.
