Farbod Akhlaghi has been appointed Warden of Trinity Hall, and will occupy the position from September 1 onwards. Akhlaghi, who has been an Assistant Professor in Moral Philosophy at Trinity since 2024, will replace Nigel Stevenson, who spent three years as Warden. The Warden is responsible for pastoral and disciplinary matters at Trinity Hall.

Two Trinity College-based groups, The Trinitones and Trinity Orchestra, are set to make appearances at this year’s Electric Picnic (EP) festival, which kicks off on Friday in Stradbally, Co. Laois. Both groups have also made several previous appearances at the event. The Trinitones, Trinity College’s all-male a cappella choir known for their pop song performances, is set to perform American singer Chappell Roan’s 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in full.

Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless has approved a plan to create 358 new student beds as a part of the Darty Student Accommodation Project, subject to final approval from College’s financial board.

Trinity College Dublin has made 3,976 offers to students in the first round of the 2026 CAO process, 58% of which were for students’ first preference courses. Of all CAO applications for level 8 courses this year, 13.6% of students had put Trinity as their first preference.

Hafez Al-Rayyes is a twenty-year-old student from the Al Naser neighborhood in Gaza. He is the youngest brother to four sisters. He likes to solve maths puzzles for fun. In 2023, Hafez graduated from secondary level education with a 97% grade average. In different circumstances, he would now be entering into his Senior Sophister year in college, with a stellar academic record if his GPA is anything to go by.

The Irish musical community has been shocked by the tragic passing of musician Glen Hansard after a motorcycle accident last week. Once a busker on the streets of Dublin, Hansard came to define the city’s musical identity and inspire generations of musicians and artists. He rose to prominence in Ireland as the frontman for his band The Frames in the 1990s, and later for his solo career, as well as roles in projects such as the film Once, for which he won an Oscar.

This week, College hosted European Research and Innovation Ministers and policy makers in the Old Library on campus. The visit formed part of the informal meeting of the EU’s Competitiveness Council (Research and Innovation) which develops and adopts EU legislation and policies to strengthen the single market and make Europe more competitive. During Ireland’s EU Presidency, the group is chaired by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Innovation, Research and Science, James Lawless, TD.
