I added this as a PPS to the orginal post, but wanted to highlight it separately here since it answers a couple of questions I raised in the original post. If you missed that one (I sent it on Saturday), go read it! Experimental Fat Loss went and asked Max Petersen, the first author of “Effect of Diet Macronutrient Content on the Cardiometabolic Response to Weight Loss: A Randomized Clinical Trial.” (Petersen, 2026) what the PUFA composition of his diets was.
Keto vs. Mediterranean vs. ‘Plant-based’. And the Winner Is...
I saw this yesterday, so I wanted to get a quick note out on it, as I’m sure it will get a lot of coverage. “Effect of Diet Macronutrient Content on the Cardiometabolic Response to Weight Loss: A Randomized Clinical Trial.” (Petersen, 2026; all quotes bold and italic.) In short, the RCT was a calorie-restricted weight loss intervention, using three different diets, “very-low-carbohydrate ketogenic” , Mediterranean, and “very-low-fat plant-forward”.
"Old Person Smell" is the Smell of Rancid Seed Oils
Popular Science may have long since turned into a rag, but they do still publish interesting material, if inadvertently. “We smell different as we age. Here’s why.” (Byrne, 2026; all quotes from this source will be bold and italic.) “Stale attics and moth-eaten sweaters aside, there is a specific, identifiable chemical signature behind the stereotype of ‘old person smell,’ according to Choudhary.
Curcumin, Depression, and Seed Oils: A Surprising Connection
Rates of depression have increased steadily over recent years. A recent paper found 1 in 10 adults and 1 in 5 children were depressed. “From 2015 to 2019, there were widespread increases in depression…, and in 2020, past 12‒month depression was prevalent among nearly 1 in 10 Americans and almost 1 in 5 adolescents and young adults.” (Goodwin, 2022) Depression can be debilitating, and it’s part of a larger pattern of behavioral and neurological changes that have occurred over recent decades.
"Tucker Goodrich's Dunning-Kruger Moment"
“The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias that describes the systematic tendency of people with low ability in a specific area to give overly positive assessments of this ability….” “In popular culture, the Dunning–Kruger effect is sometimes misunderstood as claiming that people with low intelligence are generally overconfident, instead of denoting specific overconfidence of people unskilled at particular areas.” I presume Kruse—I won’t dignify him with the honorific of “doctor”, which...
Book: Introduction
When I was growing up, I never had any interest in diet. Like most kids, I ate what appealed, and often sat late at the dinner table staring at things like brussel sprouts that didn’t appeal. My mother, despite eating a “healthy” diet, fought a weight problem, often through Weight Watchers, and never really won. Her weight went up and down, and it turns out her experience was typical (Polidori et al. 2016).
The Origin of Obesity
I recently read a post from Sama Hoole on X, where he observed: “The animal fat was never what made America sick. The seed oil, the sugar, the packet, and the sofa did that, and the Amish skipped all four.” The most metabolically ill country on Earth has a control group living right inside it, and the results are deeply inconvenient. The Amish eat butter, lard, eggs, meat, and raw milk straight from their own cows, by the bucket. They cook in animal fat.
Why Statins, and Not Lowering Seed Oils?
Be careful what you look for: it might be worse than you expect. How the cardiologist who helped make statins the standard treatment discovered seed oils cause CVD. Introduction Daniel Steinberg was a renowned cardiologist and lipid researcher (Masterjohn, 2009). He is credited with convincing Merck to bring a statin drug (lovastatin) to market, despite concerns about statin toxicity.
Vegetarian Diet Experiment
I spent ~11 days eating a vegetarian diet. What happened? So, as detailed in this post, I spent ~11 days eating a vegetarian diet. What happened? Vipassana Meditation Tucker Goodrich · May 12 Read full story Introduction For starters, I am not a carnivore. I mostly eat beef, fish, full-fat dairy, and fruit, with some vegetables. I also have some starch, and some sugar. Ice cream is a health food. I avoid wheat, seed oils, seeds, and seed-fed animals, like chicken or pork.
Vipassana Meditation
My daughter Grace is engaged to a Japanese fellow, Yuto (who speaks English, thank Heavens for me!), and she recently recommended to me that I attend a Vipassana meditation course. Yuto had done this course when he was backpacking in India, and thought it was terrific, and that I would benefit from doing it also. Tucker Goodrich: yelling Stop is a reader-supported publication.
