Tulane spinout LumaWave awarded $1.5 million to improve fetal monitoring during labor
Researchers from the Tulane University School of Science and Engineering have received a $1.5 million award from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to advance fetal monitoring technology that can do something current monitoring tools cannot: directly measure oxygen levels in fetal tissue during pregnancy and labor. The researchers plan to pursue the technology through their spinout company, LumaWave.

Inspired by New Orleans second lines, each umbrella tells the story of a student's Tulane experience. At Convocation, incoming students receive a plain white umbrella and are encouraged to personalize it throughout their time at Tulane.

Tulane doctor helps bring first sickle cell gene therapy treatment to Gulf South
His hospital room lit with the bright light of spring, Daniel Cressy lay in his bed knowing it was the first day of his new life. Cressy, a 23-year-old from Metairie, had been born with sickle cell disease, a painful blood disorder once thought incurable. The condition had shaped his life from infancy and eventually put his dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot on hold after the Federal Aviation Administration rejected his application due to his medical condition.

Libby Connolly Alexander, a Tulane graduate, distinguished business leader, philanthropist and longtime university supporter, has been named chair-elect of the Board of Tulane, the university’s governing body. Alexis Culotta, senior professor of practice in the Newcomb Department of Art in the School of Liberal Arts, was recently awarded a fellowship by I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies. Culotta will travel to Florence to expand her scholarship on the frescoed and sgraffitoed facades of homes and other buildings in Renaissance Rome.
Pickleball craze comes to Tulane as Goldring Tennis Center opens courts to the community
The fastest-growing sport in America has a new home at Tulane University, and players of all skill levels are welcome to join in on the fun by reserving pickleball courts at the new Goldring Tennis Center. The Goldring Tennis Center, located at 200 Broadway St. at Tulane’s University Square, opened in February 2026 as the home of the Green Wave men's and women's tennis programs. It features six NCAA-regulation tennis courts and four outdoor pickleball courts.
