I have always been interested in living in UK for a little while, so when I was looking for a place to do my exchange semester in it was a natural choice. It of course helped that for an English-speaking country the distance I’d have to travel was comparatively small and thus the costs much lower than many other majority English speaking countries. Abigail Waring is a climate physics researcher at the University of Leicester and the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO). Her research focuses on satellite-derived land surface temperature (LST), climate monitoring, and validation, with a particular interest in Arctic and cryosphere science.
Conflicting Ethnohistories: Conflicts and Restitution in Eurasian and Siberian Ethnohistory
An international team of Arctic researchers from Tohoku University, the University of Helsinki, and the University of Aberdeen presented a well-attended panel on Eurasian studies at the 13th East Asian Conference on Slavic Eurasian Studies in Japan from 29–31 May, 2026. The focus of the conference had been on the war of aggression in Ukraine.
Dr Leah Macaden Awarded Prestigious RCSI Fellowship
Dr Leah Macaden, Senior Lecturer in Nursing Studies and Vice-Lead of the Northern Nursing Education Thematic Network (NNEN), has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship Ad Eundem by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). Conferred at a ceremony in Dublin on 8 December 2025, she was one of only ten recipients worldwide to receive this honour.
