Exped Ultra 1R Mat Review
As the lightest inflatable camping mat in Exped's extensive range, the Ultra 1R is a good choice in summer, with a low weight and compact packed size that makes it equally attractive for backpacking journeys, bike packing, and lightly-laden summit camps and bivvys. Having used it over the first few weeks of the season, I've been impressed so far. Ultra range Emphasising low weight, the Ultra range is aimed at the more demanding user, from backpackers to mountaineers.

Ultra running is set to return to the Cape Wrath Trail next year, with news that the team behind the Spine Race has taken on the event, after the much-lamented demise of Ourea Events. Following the 300km+ route from Fort William to the Cape Wrath lighthouse - often said to be Britain's most challenging long distance trail - The Wrath, as it's now dubbed, will be a non-stop, self-sufficient expedition race in the style of the Spine.

I've tried a variety of 'stiff' shoes, and they either don't actually offer that much support to the toes, or are just great hulking lumps of stiff rubber and feel like wearing mountain boots. All the shoes that rely on stiff rubber lose their support as the shoes wear out too. Not these.
