A worker at a US immigration detention centre has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a protester during a demonstration outside a Colorado facility. Brandon Booth, 42, an employee of private prison contractor GEO Group, was taken into custody after the shooting outside the Aurora ICE Processing Centre on Thursday evening.

A former Derbyshire Police detective chief inspector has been jailed after blacking out while driving an unmarked police car and killing a father-of-two, despite being warned more than a decade earlier to stop driving. Firefighters remain at the scene of a large wildfire in Dartford after tackling multiple seats of fire across heathland on Friday afternoon. A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was found seriously injured at a property in Bracknell earlier this week. Emergency services were called to Birkdale, Bracknell, shortly before 7am on Wednesday, July 15, where Natalie Clements, 40, was discovered with a serious head injury. Despite the efforts of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
