The University of North Carolina Wilmington has selected David Glew to serve as interim dean of the Cameron School of Business, effective July 1. Glew succeeds David Mautz, former chair of the Department of Accountancy and Business Law, who served as interim dean for the 2025–26 academic year. Glew, a familiar and trusted leader within the Cameron School community, has served as associate dean of undergraduate programs since 2015.
Spanish major Elizabeth Hernandez ’26 once thought that she would never go to college. Now, UNCW has become a place where she is redefining her future. Originally from Dover, Florida, Hernandez describes her beginnings as humble. She moved around constantly as a child before settling in Rocky Point, North Carolina. Her interest in pursuing higher education began in high school where she joined the UNCW Precollege Mentoring Program and the summer bridge program as a mentee.

Rising UNCW seniors McKenna Beard ’27 and Rianza de Wet ’27 are among nine winners of a prestigious DeJoy-Woś scholarship. Supported by The DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation, the 2026 scholars receive full scholarships to participate in the TFAS Academic Internship Program in Washington, D.C., where they will intern with leading organizations and complete courses through George Mason University. Beard is a native of Gastonia and majoring in political science and criminology with a minor in sociology.
A new undergraduate program in data science will be offered at the University of North Carolina Wilmington beginning in August 2026. Approved by the UNC Board of Governors in May, the interdisciplinary program blends mathematics, statistics and computer science, equipping students with a comprehensive foundation for understanding and working with complex data.
A sculpture by Sarah Peoples depicting elements of food and nature The CAB Art Gallery will display “Through the Oyster Speculum,” an exhibition of artworks by Philadelphia artist Sarah Peoples, from June 22 through Sept. 9, with a public reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 27. Summer gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Friday from May 22-Aug. 10.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Christine Reed Davis will join other higher education leaders at a gathering in Washington, D.C., to begin the Executive Leadership Academy (ELA), a distinguished program designed to prepare experienced administrators for senior executive roles across colleges and universities.
The idea began with students leaning together around tables in a high school classroom, talking through their work as a steady hum of engaged, meaningful discussion filled the room. Music played as student teacher Matthew Taylor ’23. ’24M, a then-UNCW senior being observed in the classroom, moved from group to group, checking in, offering encouragement and making space for conversation.
