Oct. 1, 2026 The Public Safety Advisory Committee will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m., in the Carlotti Administration Building, Conference Room 221. The committee is charged with advising and providing recommendations to the Department of Public Safety and its various units—including the URI Police Department, Transportation and Parking, and Emergency Management—as well as University leadership regarding the department’s programming and operational activities.

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sept. 30, 2026 – Irma Stevens, assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Rhode Island, has secured a five-year, $1.1 million CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation. Stevens will use the funding to research variable literacy—the ability to comprehend and use mathematical symbols—and to develop ways to support students who struggle to use variables meaningfully.

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sept. 30, 2026 – The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute concludes its 2026 Annual Public Lecture Series on Wednesday, Oct. 14 with their Fall Lecture, straying from the lectern this year to bring participants on a walk through the North Woods, followed by a conversation and hands-on zine-making activity with DWELL Lab. URI’s North Woods serves as a teaching forest and site for field research on the Kingston Campus as well as an important communal space.

Providence, R.I.—Sept. 29, 2026—The University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and the Community College of Rhode Island are partnering on efforts related to Question 1, a higher education bond measure on the November ballot. The measure would provide funding for training and workforce development in healthcare, the skilled trades, and other high-demand fields.

Sept. 29, 2026 The University of Rhode Island Annual Security, Crime Statistics and Fire Safety Report—known as the Clery Report—will be available to all members of the community on Thursday, Oct. 1. The report contains useful information about how the University works in partnership to educate all members of the community to be safe in their surroundings, help prevent crimes and promote fire safety.

Sept. 28, 2026 A portion of West Alumni Avenue, between White Horn Brook and the Brookside parking lot will be closed beginning Wednesday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 2. The closure will remain in place overnight. Complex Road, the Roger Williams Complex and the bike path (North of West Alumni Avenue) will remain accessible via Butterfield / West Alumni Ave. Brookside and Lot 22 will remain accessible via Tootell Road/ West Alumni Ave.
