Residents packed Prichard City Hall Thursday night for a community meeting on a proposed data center development, with many attendees voicing concerns about jobs, environmental impacts and whether the project would provide meaningful benefits to the city. Developers with Edged presented plans for what they call Project Gateway, a proposed networking data center that would replace a former 911 data center site on Telegraph Road. The meeting quickly revealed strong opinions from many in attendance.

According to Bay Minette Police, Thursday morning at 8:37, officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious person in front of the United Bank on McMeans Avenue. When officers arrived, they engaged a male who was in obvious, mental distress. The male indicated that he needed assistance that the officers were not qualified to provide. Days earlier, Bay Minette Police Department finalized an agreement with Alta Pointe Health.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR), in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), plans to distribute Alabama SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) benefits to eligible children again this summer. Alabama SUN Bucks will provide a one-time issuance of $120 per school-aged child to low-income families to assist them in purchasing groceries over the summer.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the state to execute death row inmate Jeffery Lee by nitrogen hypoxia, escalating an emergency legal fight over the state’s execution method just hours before Lee is scheduled to die.

A growing backlash is building over Visit Mobile’s celebration of Pride Month, and it is coming from inside the organization’s own leadership. Pastor Travis Johnson, a member of Visit Mobile’s board of directors, is objecting to the Pride Month celebration because it "causes friction in our community." Johnson is also objecting to the use of taxpayer money to support the effort. Visit Mobile is a nonprofit organization that receives taxpayer money through a lodging tax.

Feeding the Gulf Coast broke ground Wednesday on a major warehouse expansion project designed to nearly double its food storage capacity. Leaders say it represents much more than additional warehouse space. It's about serving a growing need. Seven years ago, the food bank distributed around 22 million pounds of food annually. Now, it's up to 45 million pounds, all while operating out of the same facility.

For nearly three years, court-appointed receiver John Young has been trying to stabilize a water system burdened by debt, aging infrastructure and years of mismanagement. Tuesday night, he delivered a message to residents packed inside Hope Chapel AME Zion Church: progress is being made, but the hardest part may still lie ahead. U.S. District Judge Emily C. Marks issued the ruling Tuesday after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to her court for further review.
