A suspect was fatally wounded Thursday afternoon in an officer-involved shooting near UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham, according to the Birmingham Police Department. Birmingham Police officials say officers were investigating a complaint around 12:35 p.m. in the 2700 block of University Boulevard when the encounter resulted in the suspect being fatally wounded.

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at approximately 11:16 p.m., officers responded to the 7600 block of Elm Cir. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim deceased with a fatal gunshot injury. Officers also discovered a male victim and a female victim with life-threatening injuries inside of the home. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood announced today that Desiree Holiday has been convicted of Intentional Murder in the 2024 shooting death of her boyfriend, Ja’Curtis Robinson. On August 11, 2026, a Mobile County jury returned a guilty verdict against Holiday following a trial before the Circuit Court of Mobile County. The evidence presented at trial established that on March 3, 2024, Holiday shot Robinson in the back, causing his immediate death.

Clyde Jones, the Democratic congressional candidate for District 1, is challenging Republican Jerry Carl to a debate after Carl secured 74.7% of the vote in Tuesday’s special primary election. Jones posted on social media Wednesday morning that voters deserve to hear where the two candidates stand on the issues. “I am challenging Mr. Carl to at least one debate, if not more. Let the voters hear from us and make an informed choice when they vote for their representative in November.

According to ALEA, a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, and has claimed the life of a Flomaton man. James R. Ward, 72, was fatally injured when the 1977 John Deere 4430 tractor he was operating, which was towing a hay bailer, was struck in the rear by the 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Daniel L. Wilson, 43, of Quincy, Fla. Ward was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alabama voters in four Congressional districts head back to the polls on Tuesday. The special primary follows rapid changes to the state's Congressional map this year, forcing voters in those districts to cast new ballots for Congress after the results of the May primary were thrown out. The election is costing taxpayers more than $4.4 million dollars, but turnout is expected to be extremely low. It will mark Alabama's third election day in less than 90 days.
