OREM, Utah – In a press release, Utah Valley University announced that author and educator Sharon McMahon, along with any other potential speaker candidates, will no longer be speaking at the annual spring 2026 commencement ceremony, citing safety and security concerns. UVU had announced via press release and social media that McMahon — a former history teacher and self-described “America’s Government Teacher” — would serve as the keynote speaker for the April 29 ceremony.

On March 26, 2026, the UVU track and field team hosted the UVU Collegiate Invitational, where many school records were tied. Most notably, Maddie Passmore equaled Olivia Pixton’s triple jump record of 12.26m. Many students experienced much success, and the team is excited to compete at the UNLV Rebel ELITE in Las Vegas soon. UVU sports experience much success, but it also does in the academic field.

For many UVU students, college can be a time of burgeoning independence; a chance to not only find oneself, but to put new skills to the test. While skills such as note taking, effective studying and time management are essential to graduate college, another overlooked life skill is cooking. On its surface, cooking may seem like a hobby or a passion. Others view it as something people do because they enjoy it or want to pursue it professionally.

At UVU’s Language Industry Day, Jeff Beatty encouraged students to pair language skills with adaptability, expertise and purposeful communication. Maybe struggle finding the settings button for a browser you’re using, or perhaps there’s a feature on an application that makes it harder to complete your tasks. Or maybe you just want to try something fresh and innovative. When it comes to using applications for productivity—which is especially useful for UVU students—it can be frustrating when an app is unable to effectively complete the assignments we receive.

The desire for a good meal is one that anyone can relate to. While a meal may be easy to come by, finding one that leaves you satisfied can be a challenge. Students at Utah Valley University have no shortage of options when it comes to deciding what to eat. One student may choose to buy produce from the grocery store and cook at home. Another student might opt for the convenience of ordering food to their dorm.

Finals are fast approaching for UVU students, and while every student has the potential to ace their exams, they may not know where to start. College exams can vary wildly between classes, and of course, their content, difficulty and format can vary too. The question lies in how to prepare for exams, and how to improve a Wolverine’s chances of success. Here are some recommended strategies to make studying more productive and help ensure your sanity during finals week.

UVU graduate Caleb Furnell competed in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. He was one of three push athletes on the four-man U.S. bobsled team, and this was the first Olympics he competed in. Furnell graduated from UVU in 2024 with a degree in exercise science. His sports played a major role in his time at the university, where he specialized in sprints on UVU’s track and field team.
