Last year, when four of the hottest new spots in Vancouver made the top 10 in Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants list, we were all abuzz. Deliciously, and well-deservedly, two new Vancouver omakase restaurants made the cut: Sushi Hyun (our Gold winner in Restaurant Award’s Best Omakase category, by Chef Juhyun Lee who prepared “some of the most refined, elegant yet deeply alive flavours” we’d had all year) and the unreal chicken yakitori experience by Chef Pete Ho, Sumibiyaki Arashi.

Café Medina 780 Richards St. Brunch hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the heart of downtown is the buzzy, eclectic Café Medina, where brunch is the main event.
