East sweeps basketball all-star games in Greensboro
The East teams took home wins in both the boys and girls basketball games at the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Games on Monday night at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse. In the girls game, the East team claimed a 97-85 win over the West. The East boys team defeated the West squad 98-83. Apex Friendship’s Jasmine Nivar was named the Most Valuable Player of the girls game, while Swansboro’s Jermaine Cunningham took home MVP honors in the boys game.
NFHS: Number of high school officials increases 6% since last year
The number of registered high school sports officials remains above pre-pandemic levels and grew by six percent during the last school year, according to a follow-up survey of 36 NFHS member state associations that originated in 2018-19.
Roster changes made for East-West All-Star Games
The N.C. Coaches Association has announced a handful of roster changes ahead of next week’s East-West All-Star Games. All-star games start on Monday with girls and boys basketball at the Novant Health Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Data: These school districts would benefit most from using sports gambling revenue to pay high school coaches
Some members of the North Carolina state legislature are considering using tax revenue from sports gambling to help fund middle and high school sports coaches, and the data suggest it could have a significant impact in many districts. Senate Bill 657 would set aside $11 million in sports betting tax revenue for coaches’ pay. It would guarantee that every middle and high school coach at public schools in North Carolina would make a stipend of at least $3,000 per season.
Aiden Smalls' commitment to NC State will come with a position change
Aiden Smalls wanted to play quarterback in college, and he’s proven himself to be a prolific dual-threat quarterback at Clayton High School. Smalls, a 6-foot-1 and 175-pound rising senior, passed for 1,948 yards and rushed for 1,006 yards as the Comets’ starting quarterback. He was responsible for 36 touchdowns on offense, including 12 rushing. He’s a playmaker, and in open space, he’s tough to bring down because of his speed.
Players named to East-West All-Star Girls Basketball Game
Top graduating seniors from N.C. High School Athletic Association member schools nominated by their high school coaches are eligible for the game. The rosters include 10 players from the East and 10 players from the West. The game will be held on Monday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Novant Health Field House at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
East-West Boys Basketball roster released by NC Coaches Association
The N.C. Coaches Association has released the rosters for the 2025 East-West All-Star Boys Basketball Game. The game is scheduled to be played on July 21 at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Swarm Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The girls basketball game will be played beforehand at 6:30 p.m. To be selected for the game, graduating seniors from N.C. High School Athletic Association member schools must be nominated ahead of time by their coaches.
