US President Donald Trump has signed new executive orders banning some Canadian goods from entering the United States, escalating a trade fight that has already seen both countries impose steep new duties on each other. The five proclamations, signed Tuesday, target certain Canadian motor vehicles, dairy products and alcoholic beverages. The import bans apply to goods imported on or after 12:01 a.m. ET on Sept. 29.

A former B.C. high school teacher has agreed to a lifetime ban on reapplying for a teaching certificate after admitting to conduct unbecoming a teacher. Theodore Donald Ewald entered into a consent resolution agreement with the commissioner for teacher regulation on Aug. 18. According to a summary of the agreement, Ewald was employed as a high school teacher by an unnamed B.C. school district at all material times.

Police believe a man’s efforts to avoid hitting an animal while riding his motorcycle on Hwy 3 cost him his life. Emergency crews were called out to the scene of the fatal single-vehicle collision on Hwy 3, east of Castlegar, around 7 pm on Saturday. They arrived to find a motorcycle that had sustained significant damage and the 62-year-old rider of the bike. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries by the time first responders reached the scene.

Homicide detectives are probing a fatal Burnaby shooting that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. However, the victim was not located at the scene. He was found dead in his home, around a block from the shooting, over 14 hours later. The Burnaby RCMP responded to the report of shots fired near 18th and Humphries avenues around 1:30 am Sunday. “The suspect vehicle fled the area prior to police arrival,” explained an Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) release.

A man who was part of a houseboating group on Shuswap Lake was found safe on Saturday after spending nearly 24 hours in the wilderness. According to Shuswap Search and Rescue (SSAR), the man disappeared from a houseboat beached at Hungry Cove on Friday. After being summoned by Sicamous RCMP, SSAR deployed a boat team and two ground teams to search the cove and shoreline.
