KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For nearly 80 years, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) has invested in America's next generation of leaders through its Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen youth patriotic essay contests. The Oct. 31 deadline is fast approaching for middle and high school students to enter this year's competition and have their chance at winning a share of nearly $3 million in scholarships and awards.

Veterans who paid Trajector Medical, LLC, formerly known as Vet Comp & Pen Medical Consulting, LLC, for assistance obtaining or increasing their Department of Veterans Affairs disability benefits may have claims in Trajector’s pending bankruptcy and should act promptly to protect their rights. The Bankruptcy Court initially established Oct. 1, 2026, as the General Claims Bar Date. The Bankruptcy Court granted an extension of that deadline to Oct. 31, 2026.

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Veteran-founded Sport Clips Haircuts is launching its 13th annual campaign for the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program, giving clients nationwide an opportunity to help veterans and service members pursue education and career goals after military service. The campaign runs Oct. 5 through Nov. 14, 2026, with donations accepted at participating Sport Clips locations. On Veterans Day, Nov.

Sharing a shoreline with Oklahoma to the north and Texas to the south, the aptly named Lake Texoma is home to members of VFW Post 7873, who gladly share their serene outdoor space with other veterans and the public. Offering five RV spaces with full hookups (including water, sewer and electricity access) and access to Lake Texoma via a boat ramp, the Post hosts hundreds of campers each summer. May 2 marked the kickoff to VFW’s 5th Annual Day of Service. Taking place across the nation and around the world, VFW Day of Service showcases veterans banding together to make a difference in their communities. By combining resources, gaining media support and dedicating the entire month to service, VFW spotlights the ongoing commitment of veterans who continue to lead lives of service. As of May 29, 2,662 Posts around the world had completed Day of Service projects.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Sept. 29 the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) proudly commemorates VFW Day, marking 127 years of unwavering service to America’s veterans, service members, their families and communities. Founded on Sept. 29, 1899, the VFW has stood as the nation’s most established major war veterans’ service organization, built on the conviction that service to country doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.

In 2005, VFW’s new Commander-in-Chief Cory Geisler was six years into a successful career as a regional sales manager for a company in Wisconsin. And while the money and prestige were comforting, something else was on his mind.

One North Carolina VFW Post found a creative way to aid active-duty military personnel before deployment. Post 1142 and its Auxiliary in North Wilkesboro recently partnered with the United Service Organizations (USO), a non-profit dedicated to supporting military personnel and their families throughout the entirety of their service. The Post and Auxiliary members made it their goal to fill and donate more than 600 bags of snacks and personal hygiene items to be delivered to Marines.

The VFW Foundation is committed to ensuring VFW Posts and Auxiliaries have the resources, knowledge and support they need to strengthen their communities and advance the VFW’s mission. While funding VFW National Programs remains central to the Foundation’s work, the Foundation also helps local Posts and Auxiliaries build their capacity through fundraising guidance, grant opportunities and resources designed to support their service to veterans, service members and their families.

Members of VFW Post 10131 and its Auxiliary in Cape Canaveral, Florida, hosted a luncheon on June 7 to recognize nine Purple Heart recipients from the Brevard County community. VFW Post 10131 and its Auxiliary honored Medal of Honor recipient and Post 10131 Life member Melvin Morris (center) during their recent luncheon honoring local Purple Heart recipients and first responders.
