The education reform train the Legislature assembled a year ago finally left the station when Gov. Phil Scott signed Act 170, but it is still a long way from its final destination. Even the bill the governor just signed, “An act relating to next steps in transforming Vermont’s education system,” is only the start of a vitally important process of local community engagement to shape control and management of Vermont schools going forward.

**** Baby Boomers were introduced to Ancient Rome by Sword and Sandal epics. Big budgets, big battles, big speeches, a cast of thousands … bad movies. They’re all childish trash. By the mid-1960s, studios finally decided to stop blowing money on bloated history lessons. Nobody was clamoring for “Cleopatra 2.” But Rome was not dead. The BBC learned from Hollywood’s mistakes. The mini-series “I, Claudius” is the opposite of those crummy epics. There’s no spectacle and no action.

This grant helps fund the purchase of equipment for dairy processing and packaging to modernize production. This year’s application process has two stages. Pre-Applications are due by August 13. Successful pre-applicants will then be invited back to submit full applications. Projects should boost processing capacity for local milk, strengthen business viability, and/or meet consumer demand for regional dairy products.
