After years of surviving sanctions, Tehran is now confronting one of the harshest squeezes in the Islamic Republic’s history, according to Iranian insiders and regional sources.

DUBAI, Sept 6 (Reuters) – Iran said it will step up efforts to tackle problems created by the U.S. sanctions that are crippling its economy, while a senior Iranian official warned of a “painful response” if it comes under further attack. Six months after U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran, the war appears to be at a stalemate. A preliminary ceasefire accord reached in June has unravelled and little progress has been made in diplomatic efforts to ​get the peace process back on track.

LISBON, Sept 6 (Reuters) – At least 25 people, many of them schoolchildren and ​teenagers, were killed when ‌a bus plunged into a ravine on Fogo, one of Cape Verde’s islands in the ‌Atlantic ​Ocean off the ⁠coast of West ⁠Africa, national news agency Inforpress reported on Sunday. The crash occurred on a mountain road ​in northern Fogo late on Saturday, when the ⁠bus veered ⁠off the road and ​plunged about 30 metres into ​a steep ravine, it said.

Kushner and Witkoff travelled from Moscow, where they held three hours of talks with Russian President ​Vladimir Putin on Saturday but did not appear to secure a breakthrough in the conflict.

However, before moving on to the actual ​preparations for the meeting, it is necessary ⁠to understand what ⁠its agenda will ​be, Ryabkov said.

BEIJING, Sept 6 (Reuters) – An avalanche struck Glacier No. 2 on Muztagh Ata, near China’s ​border with Tajikistan in ‌the northwestern Xinjiang region, with several tourists capturing footage on their phones, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Sunday. • ‌Video ​showed a massive ⁠wall of snow ⁠and ice cascading down the mountainside, forming a snow cloud more than 100 metres (328 feet) wide, ​the broadcaster said.

Sept 6 (Reuters) – OPEC+ is set to keep its oil output policy unchanged for October at a meeting on Sunday, two ​people familiar with the discussions told Reuters, as ‌the producer group needs to agree new quotas before deciding its next output steps. The meeting comes as the Iran war continues to disrupt oil exports through the ‌Strait ​of Hormuz, limiting OPEC+’s influence ⁠over prices and market ⁠share. Unlike in the past, the group’s supply decisions have had a limited impact on the market.
