WAKA, virtual channel 8 (UHF digital channel 25), is a CBS-affiliated television station serving Montgomery, Alabama, United States that is licensed to Selma. Owned by Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bahakel Communications, it is part of a duopoly with Tuskegee-licensed CW+ affiliate WBMM (channel 22); Bahakel also operates Montgomery-licensed ABC affiliate WNCF (channel 32) under a shared services agreement (SSA) with owner SagamoreHill Broadcasting. The stations share studios on Harrison Road in north Montgomery, while WAKA's transmitter is located in Gordonville, Alabama. Source

Posted: MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — A colorful hot air balloon in the Perry Hill Road area on Saturday turned heads as Montgomery Academy hosted its 10th annual STEAMfest. The tethered balloon rides were introduced for the first time this year and quickly became one of the day’s most popular attractions. Hundreds of children from pre-K to sixth grade attended the free community event, which featured more than 50 hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math activities.

Sunday looks partly cloudy and very warm, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Sunday night could be a bit cooler, with lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Next week remains very warm with above-average temperatures across central and south Alabama.
Four Montgomery men arrested on multiple charges in Millbrook
Millbrook police say four Montgomery men are in custody on drugs and weapons charges. Police Chief PK Johnson says on Monday, his officers arrested 20-year-old Dillan Ousley, 24-year-old Xzander Duncan, 20-year-old Trayontez Love, and 18-year-old Keldrick Martin after pulling them over on Highway 14 near I-65. According to Chief Johnson, officers found probable cause to search the vehicle after they smelled marijuana coming from it.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Oklahoma’s playmaking defense traveled great again Saturday, this time coming up with 17 points off three turnovers to shovel more chaos into the Southeastern Conference and the College Football Playoff pictures with a 23-21 upset of Alabama. The 11th-ranked Sooners (8-2, 4-2 SEC, No. 11 CFP) backed up their win two weeks ago at Tennessee with an even bigger shocker — this time taking down the fourth-ranked Crimson Tide (8-2, 6-1, No. 4 CFP).
Coffee County crash leaves one dead, another injured
Posted: A two-vehicle crash in Coffee County has claimed the life of a man and injured a woman. It happened around 4:01 p.m. Friday on Alabama 51 near the six mile marker, approximately four miles north of New Brockton. State troopers say 79-year-old Vernon Rathbone, of Enterprise, was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle. Rathbone was pronounced dead on the scene.
Marbury man killed in Autauga County crash
Posted: A single-vehicle crash in Autauga County has claimed the life of an Marbury man. It happened around 10:00 p.m. Friday on Autauga County 131, approximately four miles southeast of Marbury. State troopers say 55-year-old Daniel Weathers was fatally injured when the truck he was driving left the roadway and overturned. Officials say Weathers, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, struck a ditch. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Action 8’s Magical Christmas Toy Drive: Ray Hawthorne from Hawthorne, Atchison & Riddle

Disney, YouTube TV reach agreement ending two week dispute
Posted: Updated: The dispute between the Walt Disney Company and YouTube TV is now over. Officials announced Friday that a multi-year distribution agreement has been reached between the two media groups. Key elements of the agreement include carriage of Disney’s full linear portfolio, including ESPN networks, ABC32, Freeform and much more. ESPN Unlimited will now be available to YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost.
Juvenile killed in Montgomery shooting
Posted: Updated: Montgomery police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a juvenile. Cpl. James Dozier tells Action 8 News that it happened just before 5 p.m. in the 3500 block of Fairground Road. Once officers and fire medics arrived, they found a juvenile male with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The unidentified male victim was pronounced dead on the scene. No word on any suspects at this time.
