Feeling hungry? Games Workshop is attempting to sate our respective appetites with its latest slate of pre-orders. The Ogor Mawtribes are getting a brand new army set, replete with plenty of fresh sculpts. As you'd hope for a faction where the average footsoldier is the size of a monster, the level to detail on the new models is fantastic, making the new army set well worth a look.
MTG The Hobbit has an $85 reprint for a mighty Mox, but it's in Dwarvish
A ton of Magic: The Gathering cards for The Hobbit set were just revealed, and alongside the new mechanics, food, goblins, Gandalfs, and enough dwarves to single handedly fuel your next typal Commander deck, there were a couple of reprints, including a Mox mana rock whose cheapest card costs $85. Mox Amber appears in this set and must surely be one of its hottest reprints, but there's a catch - which could be a pro or a con depending on your dedication to learning fantasy conlangs.
DnD meets Frankenstein in this gothic horror adventure for 5e
Many call Dungeons and Dragons the grandfather of tabletop RPGs, with its influence on the medium spanning multiple generations. And yet DnD itself is so clearly a work influenced by so many other stories. The storytelling of DnD comes courtesy of the centuries of stories behind it. It's only natural these same stories inspire campaigns to this day. This upcoming adventure book for 5e inspired by Frankenstein is the perfect example.
Darkrai can use a sinister bell to score KOs in this new Pokémon TCG combo
When John Donne wrote "send not to know for whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee" was he making a tragic statement about the nature of loss and our collective humanity, or was he bragging about pulling off a sweet combo with his Pokémon TCG deck? Scholars may never know, but what we can be certain of is that the cards Dark Bell and Mega Darkrai ex were clearly designed to work together. and they make a fun (if not entirely practical) pair.
Grab 106 GM-less indie TTRPG books for only $20 this weekend only
Tabletop RPGs often live and die by their GMs. Apologies to my fellow eternal GMs out there for the pressure, but it's true. While it's tough to lose a player or two during a session, most TTRPGs simply cannot exist without a GM. If they don't show up for a session, then that's an automatic cancellation. In such emergencies, it's good to have options, and that's what this bundle offers. The GM-less Games Bundle from RPG Trader offers 106 awesome GM-less TTRPGs from just as many creators.
MTG just gave its worst commander a massive glow up
Looking less like a fantasy rogue from Ulgrotha and more like a slightly dorky metal fan trying their best to seem tough, Joven couldn't help but become a beloved Magic: The Gathering meme. It helps (or doesn't help) that his effect is so specific and unhelpful. Even back in 1995, five mana for a creature that taps (and pays more mana) to destroy a non-creature artifact seemed steep. Nowadays it's laughable.
MTG reveals Reality Fracture planeswalkers, 'Echoverse' versions of the Lorwyn 5
Wizards of the Coast's preview panel at MagicCon Amsterdam showed off loads of cool cards from the next MTG set, Reality Fracture. This 'What If?' set has some wild reinterpretations. We saw a giant Tinybones and the new Hexhaven schools. But sweetest of all were the new planeswalker and legendary creature cards representing the Lorwyn 5 and their alternate universe rivals.
Cozy city building board game Tenby hits home in more ways than one
Tenby is a city builder that's overflowing with heart. Genuine pride and passion for the Welsh seaside town makes this an utterly charming play. Pacing can drag at times (especially with large groups), but Tenby is tremendously replayable and surprisingly tactical for how easy it is to play. Pros Surprisingly strategic Approachable and adorable Excellent theme Ah, Wales. That wet bit on the west end of the United Kingdom. Home to more castles per square mile than anywhere else on the planet.
New MTG Stardew Valley and Hatsune Miku Secret Lairs revealed, with 79 cards total!
A grand total of 79 Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair cards were revealed at MagicCon Amsterdam today, with a sackful of superdrops that fans will be able to buy from the Secret Lair website in the coming weeks. Perhaps the most exciting reveal, and the one fans will be able to purchase the soonest, is a Stardew Valley Superdrop, with three different card collections themed around the smash-hit farming/dating sim.
