With power bills continuing to bite, some Aussies are about to get a little relief. From July 1, eligible households in parts of New South Wales, South Australia and south-east Queensland will be able to access up to three hours of free electricity each day through a new initiative known as the Solar Sharer Offer. Funding from the federal government has gone towards an Illawarra company, backing homegrown advanced battery manufacturing, and clean energy supply chains. Sicona Battery Technologies in North Wollongong, will receive funding worth $45 million, the business set to expand production capacity for its silicon-based anodes by up to 300 times. Reports are it’ll take the technology from pilot scale towards commercial production, delivering up to 36-skilled manufacturing jobs in the Illawarra region.

The NSW Labor Government is significantly expanding its investment in shark-spotting drone technology to help keep people safer in the water with year-round coverage that will deliver the largest expansion of aerial shark surveillance in the world. The Government will invest an additional $34 million in drones including harnessing artificial intelligence and emerging technology in a major scale-up of drone coverage across beaches in Sydney and along the NSW coast.
