When we think of surf parks, we think of tasty waves … not tasty food and drink. But the fact is, we’re not able to enjoy those tasty wave pool rides if we’re hangry or malnourished. I will be the first to admit I’m not a foodie. This column isn’t to call out the quality of food or Instagram worthiness of the plate setups. Just feed me something before that early morning barrel session so I have enough paddle power to get into the wave.

Wavegarden and Surf Eye have introduced instant video replay screens for Wavegarden surfing lagoons, allowing surfers to view video of their most recent wave at the take-off area alongside existing machine data. The system is part of Check My Surf | Surf Eye partnership.

We’ve always enjoyed the WavePoolMag visits to Waco Surf. It’s a great wave and a great setup. Sprinkle on some Southern hospitality and it becomes an amazing surf trip all-around. Flowstate has launched Flowstate Game Modes, a points-based leaderboard platform designed to increase repeat bookings, guest engagement and product cross-selling at surf parks. The platform is live at URBNSURF Sydney, URBNSURF Melbourne, Atlantic Park Surf, Lost Shore and will next roll out at o2SURFTOWNMUC before expanding across Flowstate’s global partner network. Guests earn points for waves caught, ride length and manoeuvre skill level during each session.

Atlantic Park has been recognized among Virginia Business magazine’s “Top Projects & Real Estate Deals.” Venture Realty Group, the project’s developer, and W.M. Jordan Company, its contractor, also received the magazine’s “Best of the Best” honors in their respective categories. “I wear many hats” is the surf park mantra for working people in our nascent space. Gabriel Tamaki, or “Gabby” as his associates call him, has worn many hats and, as such, has earned his crown as the quintessential surf park employee. As anyone in the industry will tell you, there’s a sharp learning curve in the space. He’s been at Alaïa Bay for several years now, kicking off his stint as a surf coach in 2021. “The first years were a huge learning experience.

It was an innocent-enough Claude AI query, the prompt asked what it costs to construct a wave pool and the reasons why. But when the answer came back that, “Wave pool construction costs range from $1.5 million to over $80 million depending on location, equipment rental costs and toxicity of the soil. Costs are complicated further by peat, buried forests and ancient marshes,” we were confused.

Cabo Real Surf Club said construction is continuing on its Endless Surf wave basin, Surf Clubhouse and residential development, with the first homes now under construction. According to the project update, installation of the Endless Surf mechanical systems and wave generation technology will continue through late August. The final concrete pour for the wave basin is scheduled for the week of July 20.
