Forest Road 86 To Be Closed for Construction And Repair
Elkins, W.Va. (WVDN) — The Forest Service will begin road construction on Forest Road 86 Monday, 20 July 2026 to repair flood damage, improve public safety, and restore reliable access to recreation areas and nearby communities. The Forest Service will be closing FR 86-Williams River Road from the intersection of FR 216 to the intersection with WV Route 150 starting Monday, 20 July 2026. During construction, some road sections will be closed in phases while crews are working.

CULPEPER, Va. (WVDN) — The Covington Lumberjacks swept a doubleheader against the Culpeper Cavaliers, combining strong pitching and a powerful offensive attack to claim a pair of victories. The Jacks opened the day with a 10-0 shutout win before completing the sweep with a 9-4 victory in the nightcap. Obituary: Robert Larry Ewing, 85
Robert Larry Ewing God received, in Heaven, a wonderful man; his name is Robert Larry Ewing. He died on July 15, 2026, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA. He had a heart attack and battled cancer. He was born in Hico, WV, on May 27, 1941; he was 85 years old. His parents were Euphie William and Kathleen Hypes Ewing. He also had three brothers who preceded him in death: Huling, Ray, and Kenneth Ewing. He loved going to church.
Covington Answers the Call, Tops Waynesboro 7-5
WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVDN) — The Covington Lumberjacks answered every challenge Wednesday night, using a four-RBI performance from Darrius Brown to secure a 7-5 victory over the Waynesboro Generals. Covington jumped in front early and never trailed, building a 5-2 lead before Waynesboro rallied to tie the game in the seventh inning. The Lumberjacks responded in the eighth inning with two runs to reclaim the lead and close out the win.
Anglin Surpasses Guinness Bowling Record
COVINGTON, Va. (WVDN) - Mission accomplished—at least unofficially. Covington's Josh Anglin bowled for 137 hours and 10 minutes, completing 605 games to surpass the existing Guinness World Records mark for the longest 10-pin bowling marathon. While the performance appears to meet all record requirements, the attempt remains subject to official review and certification by Guinness World Records. Congratulations Josh.
