Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Plymouth which left a man with a broken wrist and fractured pelvis. Officers were called to a grassed area off Soap Street at around 8.35pm on Monday 20 July following reports of an unprovoked assault. The victim, a local man in his 50s, was approached by a group of five men believed to be aged in their early to mid-20s. Police say the man was pushed to the ground, causing him to suffer a broken wrist and fractured pelvis.

The housebuilder behind the Saltram Meadows development in Plymstock has backed a local children’s group for the second time. Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon handed the £1,000 cheque to PEM Disability Children’s Club at their annual Barbeque and Awards Ceremony in August. The popular event was held at the ground of Elburton Villa FC – another recipient of funding from Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme – and was attended by the local Member of Parliament, councillors, and the community.

From 18th September Fridays will feature a new weekly creative writing group in Collaton St Mary Parish Rooms near Paignton – Lunch & Write. Run by published author and spoken word poet, Hilda Kalap, the group is a chance for aspiring and more established writers to share lunch, connect and encourage each other in a creative community. Says Hilda: “Writing can be lonely. Many writers write in isolation, struggle to overcome procrastination and often feel their writing isn’t good enough.

Year 6 pupils across five Reach South Academy Trust primary schools in Plymouth are celebrating after achieving strong SATs results this summer. Pupils at Goosewell Primary Academy, High Street Primary Academy, Marlborough Primary Academy, Pilgrim Primary School and Stuart Road Primary School all achieved results above the national average in the combined measure for reading, writing and maths.

Citizens Advice Teignbridge is looking for volunteers to help provide support and advice to people across the local community. The organisation is inviting people from all backgrounds to consider volunteering, with no previous experience required. Citizens Advice volunteers help people facing a wide range of issues, including debt, housing, benefits and employment, providing free and confidential advice.

Sustainable Fashion Week Hub (SFW Hub) Torquay returns to Hampton by Hilton Torquay on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026. The event brings together local makers, independent businesses, students and community organisations working in sustainable fashion, repair, reuse, upcycling, vintage and waste reduction. The Green Runway fashion show is also free to watch. There are only 80 seats available, so anyone who would like a seat must book one in advance.

South Devon MP Caroline Voaden has called on the Government to commit to improving access to NHS dental care in the constituency within a year. The Liberal Democrat MP has tabled an amendment to the Health Bill which, if accepted, would require the Government to improve local NHS dental provision within one year of the legislation being passed.

Residents are being asked to have their say on two potential housing options for Bradley Lane in Newton Abbot. Teignbridge District Council has developed the proposals following an earlier consultation on the future of Newton Abbot town centre as part of work on the Newton Abbot Town Centre Masterplan. Earlier this year, local people were invited to share their views on how the town centre could be improved.
