The golden voice of singing care worker Karl Bohana has been hailed as “tonic for the soul”. According to Karl, 38, who works at Pendine Park’s Bryn Seiont Newydd in Caernarfon, he always wakes up every morning with a song in his heart. As well as providing day to day care, he delights the residents by singing their favourite songs. Karl said: “I’ll sing in the morning and on my way to work and then sing all day with the residents here.
Investment zone would “supercharge” economy in Wrexham and Flintshire
Two big hitters in the creative industries have joined forces to champion a campaign for an £80 million investment zone to be set up in North East Wales. Liam Evans-Ford, the executive director and chief executive of Theatr Clwyd in Mold and prolific Wrexham-born TV producer Ben Smith, who’s set up Tŷ’r Ddraig (Dragon House), in his home city, say it would “supercharge” the local economy. The drive to create an Investment Zone in Wrexham and Flintshire is being spearheaded by a new consortium.
Rewards for long serving “Village People” at bakery
A dozen dedicated bakers have been rewarded for a combined record of more than 270 years of service. The Jones Village Bakery held a special ceremony to thank them for their loyalty and presented each of them with a voucher for £250. One of them, Leisa Reeves, goes back a very long way with the Jones family who run the award winning bakery. Purchase ledger supervisor Leisa, 50, who lives in Coedpoeth, was in nursery school in nearby Minera with Christien Jones, the firm’s project director.
Hollywood ending for travel agent Don
A travel agent says all 300 jobs are safe after all but one of his 46 branches in North Wales and the North West were acquired by a tourism industry leader. Don Bircham is going back to the future and will continue to run the very first branch that he set up in Mold with his wife, Ruth, back in 2000 after selling the rest to Hays Travel, the largest independent travel agency in the UK.
Trailer firm with star clients toasts milestone 50th anniversary
A family-run firm which proudly counts politicians and TV presenters among its many former customers is celebrating 50 years of selling Europe’s top trailer brand. Scott Trailers, based in Walcott, Lincolnshire, is one of the oldest specialist Ifor Williams Trailers distributors in the country having partnered with them since 1973.
Totally tropical day for fun-loving care home residents in Wrexham
A multi-coloured float in the shape of a giant pineapple was the star attraction at a fun day in Wrexham. Residents and staff donned tropical shirts and flower garlands for the annual event at the Pendine Park care organisation. The sun came out and uplifting music resounded from the dazzling cavalcade as it stopped off at each of Pendine’s care homes in Summerhill, before drawing up in a bunting festooned courtyard for a Club Tropicana Carnival-themed festivities.

An acclaimed acoustic quartet are swapping the BBC Proms at London’s Albert Hall for a concert at St Asaph Cathedral. Kabantu will be bringing their eclectic, folk inspired repertoire to the North Wales International Music Festival at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 21.

Thousands flock to major celebration of Welsh country life
Thousands of countryside lovers will be flocking to North Wales for a flagship festival of rural pursuits next weekend. The second annual Welsh Game Fair will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, with the Faenol Estate on the outskirts of Bangor providing a spectacular backdrop overlooking the Menai Strait. Last year’s inaugural event attracted 10,000 people from North Wales and all over the UK and the organisers are hoping to double that number this time.
