AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - One person is dead after a late night shooting on the 2400 block of Amsterdam Drive. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said on Friday, September 4, 2026, at approximately 11:47 p.m., deputies responded to a call in reference to a report of shots fired with one person down. Upon arrival, deputies located 39-year-old John Lee Scarboro suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso.

THOMAS, Ga. (WFXG) - All residents and animals are safe after a house fire in McDuffie County. Fire crews from Thomas-McDuffie Emergency Services and Warren County Emergency Services responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Mount Pleasant Road on Friday night. Upon arrival crews found one home that was fully engulfed in flames that was being renovated at the time and another mobile home next to it with occupants inside. Crews were able to rescue all residents, 2 cats and 1 dog safely.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office finally caught the man who they say fired a shotgun at two deputies. Thursday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alleged assault on the 100 block of Tybee Court. The complainant claimed that Donte Godwin attempted to pull her out of her mail truck earlier in the day before showing up at her home.
