Strada To Resign As Corrections Commissioner After Botched Execution
Governor Bill Lee announced Saturday that state corrections commissioner Frank Strada will resign in the aftermath of the botched execution of Christa Pike. Strada had served as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Corrections since January, 2023. His resignation will go into effect at the end of this month. In the aftermath of her failed execution on Wednesday, Pike is reportedly unconscious and on a ventilator in a hospital.
Power Pole Fire Knocks Out Service
About 500 GEA customers were without power Saturday night after a power pole caught fire near Afton. The pole is located near the intersection of the East Andrew Johnson Highway and Chuckey Highway, and the first outage was reported around 10:45 Saturday night. Crews from GEA with assistance from the Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department were able to contain the fire and restore service in approximately 90 minutes,

County Property Tax Notices To Be Mailed
Greene County Trustee Nathan Holt would like to remind citizens that they should be receiving their 2026 county property tax notices in the mail during the next couple of weeks. Payments for 2026 county property taxes will be accepted beginning on Monday, October 5, at the Greene County Trustee’s Office located inside of the Greene County Administration Center at 401 Takoma Ave., Suite 104, Greeneville, TN 37743.
Wanted Man Arrested After Foot Pursuit
A man wanted on multiple probation violations now faces an additional charge after briefly leading local authorities on a foot pursuit Thursday evening. According to reports from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began around 6:15. As deputies responded to a call regarding a separate offense at Oakland Park, the Greeneville Police Department was actively investigating a burglary in nearby Bolton Park. During the burglary investigation, a Be On the Lookout was issued.
Georgia Man Wanted On Local Robbery Charges Appears In Court
A Stone Mountain, Georgia man wanted on local robbery charges from 2017 was due in court Friday. A warrant was served Thursday on Marlon Octavious Joyner at the Greene County Detention Center. Greeneville Police say arrest warrants had been issued for Joyner following the May 23, 2017 incident in which they say he met up with his former girlfriend in Greeneville. An argument ensued after he reportedly became upset when she refused to give Joyner money he demanded for a car payment.
Another Overturned 18-Wheeler on East Andrew Johnson At Tusculum Bypass
Another 18 wheeler overturned during the eleven o’clock hour today at East Andrew Johnson Highway and the Tusculum Bypass. An accident report is not yet on file. The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tusculum Police Department, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded. A similar accident occurred at that same location August 7th as seen on this link.
Greene County Democratic Party Welcomes Administrator Of Elections
With the November election just over a month away, the Greene County Democratic Party held its monthly meeting Thursday night at Walters State. The guest speaker was Greene County Administrator of Elections Justin Reaves. With more than 48.000 registered voters in Greene County, the local democratic party has been heavily promoting the trio of Jerri Green for Governor, Col. Catherine Bacon for State Representative and Kristi Burke for Congress.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee Addresses Botched Execution
As first reported on Thursday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has called for an investigation into the botched execution of Christa Pike Wednesday night. Pike was convicted of a 1994 murder, and during the execution, she receive two doses of a lethal drug. But Pike didn’t die and was taken to the hospital. Governor Lee, at a news conference Thursday, spoke of the state’s second botched execution of the year.
