Armed Robbery In Caldwell County Under Investigation

The robbery occurred Thursday (October 8) at approximately 10 p.m. According to the initial report, a black male described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a stocky build, was wearing black clothing and a ski mask.
Burke County Emergency Officials Say Isaias Could Bring Minor To Moderate Impacts
BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY) – Burke County Emergency Management is closely monitoring Hurricane Isaias as the storm moves north through the Gulf of Mexico. Although the storm’s projected path is still well west of Burke County, portions of Western North Carolina could experience heavy rainfall, localized flash flooding, and gusty winds as the system weakens and moves east. While this is not expected to be another Hurricane Helene, residents should remain aware of the potential for localized impacts.
Governor Signs Bill To Suspend Gas Tax In NC Into Law
FAIRVIEW, N.C. (WHKY) – North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein signed legislation today (October 9) at Hickory Nut Gap Farms in Fairview to temporarily suspend the state’s gas tax in an effort to lower fuel costs. House Bill 3 suspends the state’s 41-cent-per-gallon gas tax through November 30. The suspension takes effect Saturday, (October 10). The legislation passed the North Carolina House 111-1 on Wednesday (October 7) and received unanimous approval in the Senate, 41-0 later that day.
Burke County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Man On Outstanding Break-in & Theft Warrants

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Pritchard is wanted in Burke County on charges of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and felony possession of stolen goods or property.
Burke County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Suspect On Stolen Vehicle Warrant

(WHKY) – The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of 52-year-old James Walter Hicks, who has an outstanding warrant for felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Hicks was placed on the agency’s Most Wanted list on September 8. His last known address is 4511 Tallent Road in Morganton.
Minimum Prison Term Of More Than Seven Years Imposed In Sex Offense Case
CRIME TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. ( WACB) – During a session of Alexander County Superior Court on Tuesday (October 6) a Stony Point man agreed to a plea arrangement on child sex-related charges. 29-year-old Dekota Tristen Stewart of Alexander Road in Stony Point, pleaded guilty to felony attempted first-degree sex-offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child. Stewart was sentenced to serve 94-173 months in prison, or seven years, ten months to 14 years, five months.
Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting At Dog, Resisting Officer
CRIME STATESVILLE, N.C. (WACB) – 41-year-old Cesar David Rendon of Oak Grove Drive in Statesville was arrested early this morning (October 9) by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He’s charged with three counts apiece of child abuse and cruelty to animals along with single counts of assault on a government official and resisting arrest. According to arrest documents, Iredell County Deputies responded after reports of shots being fired. The suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at a dog.
Poultry House Leveled By Thursday Fire
NEWS ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (WACB) – A former chicken house was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon (October 8) in Eastern Alexander County. Units from Hiddenite, Stony Point, Vashti, Trinity (Iedell County) along with the NC Forest Service were dispatched to Charlie Lackey Road around 4:30 p.m. The building was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived.
Catawba County Christmas Assistance Applications Due Monday
Catawba County Christmas Bureau applications are due October 12. Catawba County Schools NEWS NEWTON, N.C. (WHKY) – Catawba County families seeking Christmas assistance have until Monday, October 12, to apply for the 2026 Christmas Bureau. A reminder published by Catawba County Schools says the program provides toys, clothing and coats for children 12 and younger. Students ages 13 through 17 receive clothing gift cards. Applicants must live in Catawba County.
