(WHLT) – A Hattiesburg man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly calling 911 to report that he had fired shots on Hardy Street, authorities said. Officers responded to the 100 block of Hardy Street at approximately 6:15 a.m. and contacted James Matthew Barnes, 34, according to the Hattiesburg Police Department.

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – One person is dead and others are injured after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 on Saturday afternoon. (WHLT) – One person was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 49, according to local authorities. Officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department responded around 1:27 p.m. to the 6900 block of U.S. Hwy 49 after a vehicle rear-ended another car. Police said traffic in the area had slowed down due to a separate crash nearby.

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A pedestrian died following a Monday morning crash on Interstate 59 in Jones County. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene around 7:23 a.m. on Monday, July 20. Investigators said a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by 66-year-old Michael Wayne Myrick of Heidelberg, Mississippi, was traveling south along I-59 when it struck a pedestrian walking in the same direction.

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT)-Crews responded to a crash that injured two people at Mill Creek Road and Highway 84. According to the Jones County Fire Council, the crash happened Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. Powers and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments arrived first to the crash. Upon arrival, firefighters found two vehicles. One vehicle had major damage with two people inside.

(WHLT)-Hattiesburg Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a motorcycle that was stolen from a Hub City business.

Oil and gas prices continued their decline this week with regular gas hitting $3.93 per gallon on Thursday, according to AAA. Crude is trading at roughly $91 per barrel. Gas prices have fallen every day for the last nine weeks and crude oil has fallen by 30% in roughly that same period. Prices could decline further if Iran agrees to the restoration of a 2015 nuclear deal.

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A man is wanted by Jones County deputies for escaping a traffic stop on foot. The incident happened near 900 Riels Road late on Wednesday, April 6. During the traffic stop, the female passenger, Shannia Culpepper, in the pickup truck was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled Substance after approximately 16.8 grams of illegal narcotics were discovered in her belongings. The pickup truck driven by William Parker was reported stolen out of Covington County.

The incident occurred at 900 Broadway Drive just after 4:00 p.m. According to investigators, the 29-year-old victim was stabbed during an argument that turned physical. He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
