Officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department responded around 1:27 p.m. to the 6900 block of U.S. Hwy 49 after a vehicle rear-ended another car. Police said traffic in the area had slowed down due to a separate crash nearby.
Pedestrian killed after being struck by semi-truck on I-59 Original
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A pedestrian died following a Monday morning crash on Interstate 59 in Jones County. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene around 7:23 a.m. on Monday, July 20. Investigators said a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by 66-year-old Michael Wayne Myrick of Heidelberg, Mississippi, was traveling south along I-59 when it struck a pedestrian walking in the same direction.
Crash injures two people in Jones County
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT)-Crews responded to a crash that injured two people at Mill Creek Road and Highway 84. According to the Jones County Fire Council, the crash happened Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. Powers and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments arrived first to the crash. Upon arrival, firefighters found two vehicles. One vehicle had major damage with two people inside.

Driver flees traffic stop on foot in Jones County
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A man is wanted by Jones County deputies for escaping a traffic stop on foot. The incident happened near 900 Riels Road late on Wednesday, April 6. During the traffic stop, the female passenger, Shannia Culpepper, in the pickup truck was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled Substance after approximately 16.8 grams of illegal narcotics were discovered in her belongings. The incident occurred at 900 Broadway Drive just after 4:00 p.m. According to investigators, the 29-year-old victim was stabbed during an argument that turned physical. He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
