WHUR-FM, 96.3 FM, is an urban adult contemporary radio station that is licensed to Washington D.C., and serving the Metro D.C. area. It is owned and operated by Howard University, making it one of the few commercial radio stations in the United States to be owned by a college or university, as well as being the only independent, locally-owned station in the Washington, D.C. area. Also, the staff of the station mentors the students of the university's school of communications. The studios are located on campus in its Lower Quad portion, and the transmitter tower is based in the Tenleytown neighborhood. It is also co-owned with its television partner, WHUT-TV, one of D.C.'s PBS affiliates. Source

Prince George’s County Executive Candidate Tanya Sweat
The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd. In Prince George’s County, there is only one candidate on the ballot for county executive, Democrat Aisha Braveboy after winning in the June primary. But she is not the only candidate. Independent candidate Tanya sweat is still running as a write-in candidate and is offering an alternative to Braveboy. The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture is marking its 10th anniversary next week under the theme “Welcome Home: Our Legacy Continues.” The Reunion takes a look back at the past 10 years of stories, history and impact while forging ahead to the legacy still being written. We’ll talk about the celebrations, the journey, and what’s next for the place we fondly call “Blacksonian”.

We’re talking about that special relationship that can shape a young woman’s life in powerful ways—the bond between fathers and daughters. What does a daughter need from her father, and what does a father learn from being a girl-dad? 159th Opening Convocation {WATCH}
Howard University’s 2026 Opening Convocation will take place on Friday, September 18. Doors will open for seating at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin promptly at 10:45 a.m. at which time all guests must be seated. Opening Convocation is a time-honored tradition that officially celebrates the beginning of the new academic year. To ensure everyone can partake in this special event, classes will be suspended from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us.
