Klostreich was nominated to the North Dakota Newspaper Association board during the festivities of the annual NDNA convention. Klostreich, attending with General Manager Diana Hermes, accepted the eight first place awards given to the Daily News.
Bauer named publisher of Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff
Doug Bauer has been named publisher of the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff. He joined the staff on Feb. 5. Bauer, 50, most recently served as chief strategy officer for TPC Holdings Inc. He oversaw the legacy print and online advertising operations for the Idaho-based Lewiston Tribune and Moscow-Pullman Daily News, as well as diversification efforts that included a full-service digital marketing agency and a digital billboard network.

Yaritza Vazquez has been named Publishing Operations Manager for Wick Communications, where she will oversee the company’s newspaper design and pagination. “I feel lucky to be joining a team that believes in positively impacting communities and that shares a similar passion for design and journalism,” she said. Vazquez most recently served as the non-dailies project manager in Gannett’s page design center, leading a team of 24 that designed more than 500 publications per week.

Sierra Vista-based Wick Communications will acquire the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff in a move that strengthens the company’s holdings in Arizona. The company is acquiring the Daily Sun from Davenport, Iowa-based Lee Enterprises, Inc. Wick Communications, a third-generation family-owned and operated media corporation, owns 21 newspaper titles throughout 10 Western states from Alaska to Louisiana.

Matt Hickman named Herald/Review managing editor The Herald/Review has named Matt Hickman its new managing editor. Hickman, 48, previously worked for the paper from 1998-2015 as a sports reporter, sports editor and assistant managing editor, during which time he won more than 30 statewide awards, mostly for sports coverage and column writing.

Frank Perea joins Williston and Sidney properties Frank Perea will join the Williston Herald and Sidney Herald as publisher July 10. Perea brings a wealth of leadership experience with community newspaper groups throughout the Northwest, Plains states and Colorado with a focus on overall and digital revenue growth. He is currently the vice president of Mullen Newspaper Company and oversees several markets directly.

McChesney joins Alaska properties as publisher David McChesney has joined Wick Communications as publisher of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman in Wasilla, Alaska. His first day is June 19. McChesney brings a unique perspective to the role having worked on the newspaper side and on the vendor side focusing on digital tools for the industry.
