DUNBAR Dunbar High School’s varsity football team has a chance to advance to the state title after upsetting Naples, one of the best teams in Southwest Florida, last week, winning 14 to 7. The team considers each other family, and it’s that bond off the field that’s allowed them to make history on Friday, hopefully. If the Tigers defeat Mainland, they’ll advance to the state championship. Team comes together during practice.

SOUTH FORT MYERS A Friday afternoon fire caused heavy damage to a 2nd-floor unit of an apartment complex in South Fort Myers. According to South Trail Fire, the flames could be seen through the roof. No one was home at the time, and the cause of the fire is unknown Nearby neighbors have been evacuated. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. A grand jury has indicted a Hendry County man or first-degree murder in the death of his ex-wife, who went missing shortly after Hurricane Ian. Four days after 39-year-old Katie Baunach went missing, Hendry County deputies arrested her ex-husband Ian Baunach.

LABELLE A man from LaBelle was killed early Monday morning after crashing his SUV into a cow on SR-70 in Manatee County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 62-year-old man was driving a Toyota SUV north on SR-70, near Betts Road, around 1:30 a.m. A cow wandered onto SR-70 in front of the approaching SUV and was struck. The SUV overturned and the man was ejected. According to the report, he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

High temperatures will reach the mid-80s after a mostly sunny start. Sustained winds between five to ten miles per hour are expected. CAPE CORAL Waste Pro begins picking up bulk waste from Cape Coral curbs on Monday. Piles of debris from Hurricane Ian line almost any street you drive along in Cape Coral. But now that Waste Pro is resuming bulk pickups and horticulture services, it is important to remember that hurricane debris needs to be kept separate. Pickups will occur on your regular trash day. Bulk waste consists of items that can’t fit in your trash can and weigh more than 50 lbs.

According to SWFL Crime Stoppers, on Nov. 17, the three suspects went to a Bath & Body Works store on Fashion Drive in Estero. These will be out of the northeast initially, before shifting out of the northwest. Boaters will have excellent conditions on the water. One- to 2-foot Gulf wave heights and a light chop in our bays are expected. Rain chances will be slim to none for Southwest Floridians over the next week.

In two years, Brad Mackenzie, the owner of Sanibel Honey, and his girlfriend Andrea grew their beekeeping hobby into a business with 50 hives.

VENICE Venice police are continuing their search for a man they say is missing after a small plane crashed off the coast of Venice Beach on Sunday. Police say they believe there were three people on the plane who were all related. They say they found a 43-year-old woman dead in the water near the crash and a 12-year-old girl dead inside the plane. The man who is missing is believed to be 42 years old. Police say they are not yet releasing the names of the people killed or the missing man.
