Creighton & Nebraska men's basketball still atop the nation's best attendance figures
Both the Creighton and Nebraska men's basketball teams continue to post some of the nation's best attendance figures. According to the Omaha World Herald, the Bluejays cracked the top five with an average attendance of 17,412 fans per game, while the Huskers came in eleventh for the second straight year, drawing 15,427 fans per game. Creighton, which reached its highest ranking in school history en route to the NCAA tournament, posted a 9.2% increase in average attendance from the previous season.
Northeast Hawks women's basketball player honored as Athlete of the Week
Sierra Bell of the Northeast Hawks women’s basketball team has been recognized by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference with its Division I Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. Last week, she helped lead the Hawks to the NJCAA Region XI championship. In the two wins against Marshalltown and 16th ranked Iowa Western, she racked up 22 points. Bell shot 7-19 from the floor while also contributing six assists. Defensively, she managed to grab ten rebounds.
Husker wrestlers finish fifth at Big Ten Championships
Colton McCrystal (149), Tyler Berger (157) and Taylor Venz (184) each took fourth place to lead a list of seven total placers yesterday, while Nebraska wrapped up a fifth-place team finish with 72.5 team points at the Big Ten Championships at the Breslin Center. Freshman Jason Renteria took fifth at 133, while Chad Red Jr. (141), Isaiah White (165) and Eric Schultz (197) each placed seventh at their respective weight classes.
Creighton women's basketball squad is dancin' in NCAA Tournament
The Creighton women's basketball team is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time under head coach Jim Flanery and the seventh time in program history. The eleventh-seeded 18-12 Bluejays will face sixth seeded 24-7 Iowa in Los Angeles on Saturday at 5:00. Creighton and Iowa will play the second game on Saturday after third seeded 24-7 UCLA battles 13th seeded 26-6 American at 3:00.
Creighton's Thomas named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year
Creighton guard Khyri Thomas has been named 2018 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after a vote of league coaches. Thomas is just the tenth player in league history to win the recognition more than once, joining the likes of Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Kris Dunn and Allen Iverson among those to win the award multiple times. Thomas leads Creighton with 49 steals and also owns seven blocked shots. He ranked third in steals in BIG EAST play.
Northeast Hawks women's basketball to battle Moberly CC for entry to National Tournament
The Northeast Hawks women’s basketball team is one step away from the National Tournament. The 25-4 Hawks will host fourth ranked 31-0 Moberly Area Community College of Missouri on Friday at 6:00 in the District ‘K’ Championship at the Cox Activities Center. Northeast, who has won three games in a row and five of their last six, showcase a balanced attack with only two players in double figures while the Greyhounds have four players averaging double figures.
