Westbound I-80 Lanes To Reopen Tuesday
Additional lanes to open on westbound I-80 between Richards Street and U.S. 30, Tuesday July 21. To facilitate the lanes opening, the following overnight ramps and lane closures are scheduled to take place. Starting at 9 p.m., Monday, July 20, westbound I-80 will be reduced to one lane between U.S. 30 and Richards Street. At the same time, the ramps to and from Briggs Street will close.
Laraway Road Roadway Maintenance Scheduled For This Weekend
Laraway Road – in Joliet – from Centerpoint Way east to the railroad tracks will undergo roadway maintenance on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. The work will include pavement patching, storm sewer cleaning, street sweeping, and general roadway maintenance. To accommodate the work, traffic will be shifted to maintain one lane of travel in each direction while crews work along the curb lines.
Family Of Dismembered Plainfield Man Speaks Out
Even before the gruesome murder, the house in the 2400 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive in Plainfield was no stranger to Joliet police. According to JPD spokesperson, Sgt. Dwayne English, “Prior to the homicide, we had responded to the residence three times since 2024.” Dalewayne Turner’s wife, Robin Turner, and half brother, James Adams , had each taken out Orders of Protection on Dalewayne. James on May 9, 2025 was still in effect.
Tonight’s Surf-N-Turf Concert Canceled Due To Low Air Quality Prediction
(Forest Preserve photo | Anthony Schalk) The Forest Preserve District of Will County has canceled its Surf-N-Turf Concert scheduled for tonight at Monee Reservoir due to predicted hazardous air quality. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued a Red Forecast Air Pollution Action Day for today, July 17, due to a forecast of Unhealthy-Red category particulates caused by wildfire smoke.
Shelter In Place Lifted In Plainfield
Late last night, Plainfield police issued a “shelter in place” in the 24-thousand block of Main Street (Route 126). When WJOL reached out to Plainfield PD, they would only say that they were working an “incident” in the area. Other sources say there may have been a shooting at a business in the area. As of 6:15 this morning, Plainfield Dispatch told WJOL the Shelter in Place has been lifted.
Thousands Stolen From New Lenox Restaurant
Last Friday, the owner of the Pizza Hut restaurant located at 525 W. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox reported a major theft. The owner, said they were notified by Pizza Hut’s corporate offices that approximately $10,000.00 was missing from the New Lenox location. The owner questioned the store’s manager, 56-year old James Ballantine of Joliet, who confessed to taking the daily deposits for the store.

State Rep. Carol Ammons And Her Husband Plead Not Guilty
Illinois State Rep. Carol Ammons and her husband, Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons, entered not guilty pleas to corruption charges in federal court Thursday. Their supporters claim the prosecution is part of a Justice Department campaign targeting supporters of Black reparations. The allegations are that Rep. Ammons used campaign funds for personal use, and that she steered state grant funds to nonprofit organizations which employed her daughter.
“Big Boy” Barrells Through Lockport And Joliet Friday
With great fanfare and large crowds, the Big Boy locomotive came through the Chicago suburbs in early June. Today, Big Boy 4014 – Union Pacific’s 1.2 million-pound steam locomotive – will travel through Lockport and Joliet. Big Boy is the world’s largest and most powerful locomotive. Built in the 1940s, there were 25 Big Boys originally, but now only one Big Boy tours the country – the Number 4014, which draws large crowds along railroad where ever it travels.
