WJTS TV 18 began programming on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 1993 with several features of “I Love Lucy” episodes and has been on the air with programs for all age groups. The station airs daily news, sports and weather. Local features are aired weekly as well as local church services on Sundays.
In addition to local programming, the station contracts with various production companies and completes a 24/7 week with America One Network.
WJTS TV 18 offers programs for many different demographic segments including all races, middle age, senior citizens, young adults, and children. Varied socioeconomic profiles make up the television audience.
Upon completion of 1987 feasibility study, it had indicated a community television station would work in Jasper, a license was filed with the FCC, and approved for construction in 1991.
In January of 2009, WJTS launched its Digital Signal on Channel 18 and is currently broadcasting in Digital. Source

April 2026 Indiana Unemployment Rate Lowers to 3.2% According to DWD
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has recorded the April 2026 unemployment rate for Indiana as 3.2%. By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for April was 4.3%. In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.2% compared to the national rate of 61.8%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work.

John George Schnarr, age 78, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away on May 21, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. John was born on July 28, 1947, to Lawrence J. and Beatrice E. (Allen) Schnarr. He lived a life marked by devotion—to his family, his faith, his country, and his community. A proud veteran, John served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, carrying with him throughout life the discipline, courage, and deep sense of duty that military service instilled.

Angela Carol Thompson, age 83, of English, Indiana passed away on Thursday May 21, 2026, at Brookside Village in Jasper, IN surrounded by her family. She was born November 10, 1942, to Homer and Ruth Evelyn (Wiseman) Rickenbaugh. She married John Thompson. Angela was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, businesswoman, beautician, and proud member of the Crawford County community whose life was marked by service, hard work, patriotism, and love for her family and hometown.

Dana Rae Strohmeyer, age 36, of Velpen, residing in Jasper, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, due to an automobile accident. She was born on June 19, 1989, in Jasper, Indiana, to Randy R. Strohmeyer and Brenda G. (Smith) Gutgsell. Dana was known for her vibrant smile, sunny disposition, and creative, artistic capabilities. She was an employee of Best Home Furnishings and a member of Redemption Christian Church. Dana found peace and happiness in nature.
Indiana Residents Can Fish Without License During June Free Fishing Weekend
Indiana residents will have the opportunity to fish without a license during the next Free Fishing Days scheduled for June 6 and 7. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the special weekend allows anglers to fish in public waters without purchasing a fishing license or trout and salmon stamp. However, all other fishing rules will still apply, including seasonal restrictions, size limits, and daily bag limits.
Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee Hosting Free Community Nature Hike Event June 6
The Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee and its partners will host a free “Hike & Learn” event on June 6 in celebration of National Trails Day. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to Noon EDT at the Jasper Farmers Market, located at 100 Third Ave in Jasper. Organizers say visitors can stop by throughout the morning to take part in activity booths and giveaways for all ages, all focused on water quality and forest health education.
Water Safety Officials Urge Life Jacket Use Ahead of Boating Season
With nearly 12 million recreational vessels registered in the United States, millions of Americans are expected to take to the water this season. However, officials continue to stress that boating safety remains critical. Each year, thousands of boating incidents are reported to the U.S. Coast Guard, resulting in thousands of injuries, hundreds of deaths, and significant property damage nationwide.
Indiana Conservation Officers to Lead Boating Safety Class in Crawford County
A boater education class will be offered in Crawford County this summer to help prepare residents for safe and responsible time on the water. The Indiana Boater Education course provides instruction on boat operation and maintenance, emergency procedures, boating laws, and how to make time on the water safer and more enjoyable. Classes are led by volunteer instructors and Indiana Conservation Officers and include a minimum of six hours of classroom instruction.
