As cities across the country grapple with large youth gatherings, so-called “teen takeovers,” and concerns about public safety, more officials are turning to an old tool: juvenile curfews. Raleigh, North Carolina, is the latest city considering a youth curfew after a violent July Fourth weekend that left nine people shot and led to multiple arrests. City leaders directed staff to draft a possible curfew ordinance as they look for ways to prevent similar incidents. But Raleigh is not alone.

Cleanup efforts began Friday in parts of Texas as floodwaters receded after days of torrential rain, though dangerous flooding continued to threaten other areas of the state that have already endured a deadly week. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency early Friday for the city of Sonora in Sutton County, about 170 miles northwest of San Antonio, as heavy rain pushed the Dry Devils River toward homes.

The Kennedy Center disputed Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse's, D-R.I., whistleblowers' claims on contracts for and renovations to the performing arts center. Whitehouse alleged that whistleblowers described the renovation effort of the Kennedy Center as prioritizing political optics over sound construction practices, Fox News reported Thursday. He also claimed that renovations were rushed to satisfy President Trump's preferences, resulting in wasteful spending and improper contracting.
