The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is an American professional basketball league. It is composed of twelve teams, all based in the United States. The league was founded on April 22, 1996, as the women's counterpart to the National Basketball Association (NBA), and league play started in 1997. The regular season is played from May to September, with the All Star game being played midway through the season in July (except in Olympic years) and the WNBA Finals at the end of September until the beginning of October. Los Angeles Sparks Honor Lisa Leslie with Statue
Los Angeles native Lisa Leslie was honored with the unveiling of her statue outside Crypto.com Arena and a halftime ceremony on Sunday. Leslie, a three-time WNBA MVP, played for the Sparks from 1997-2009, helped the team to back-to-back titles in 2001 and 2002 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. Leslie was also the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game. She became the first WNBA player to receive a statue in front of Crypto.com Arena.
