The Jewels have officially notched 3,349 memberships, and it's still climbing, exceeding the 3,331 memberships record set by the former Melbourne Boomers in WNBL17. The nine-team competition carried that momentum through the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off, which saw the Geelong Venom claim their first piece of silverware. Now only a few weeks remain until the historic WNBL27 tips off on October 15.

The 2026 edition of the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off has officially wrapped up, with the Geelong Venom being crowned champions. Geelong, who claimed their first-ever piece of silverware, edged out reigning champions Townsville by just 0.5 points to secure the title. Those two sides were the only undefeated outfits at the Murray Sporting Complex tournament, with five franchises finishing with a 1-1 record.

The WNBA returned to the court recently, following a break for the World Cup, and Australia's stars have been producing in a big way. Rising star and reigning WNBL MVP Izzy Borlase has carried her form from Berlin back to the WNBA with Atlanta. Against Chicago, Borlase tallied 18 points, 3 steals, 1 rebound and 1 assist to help the Dream win 106-81. Fellow Aussie guard Sami Whitcomb starred for Phoenix in their 94-91 win over Portland.

The WNBL has enjoyed a successful opening to the coming 2026-27 season, seeing the Geelong Venom crowned champions of the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off. The event made headlines across the nation after the League announced the trial of three rules at Tip Off, and now all fans who attended or watched any of the pre-season games are being invited to have their say. The trials included player only timeouts, immediate inbound passing in the back-court, and one free throw for maximum points.

Geelong Venom's Maddy Rocci has been rewarded for her incredible performances at the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off by taking out the second-ever Tiana Mangakahia MVP Award. The Australian Opals guard helped her Venom side defeat both the Adelaide Lightning and Bendigo Spirit at the Murray Sporting Complex. In the first victory, the 27-year-old tallied 31 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist before backing it up with 17 points, 12 dimes, 4 boards and 4 steals in Game 2.

The Geelong Venom have been crowned the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off champions, after two strong wins at the Murray Sporting Complex. The Venom, coached by Cheryl Chambers, opened their account at the pre-season tournament by fighting back to defeat the UC Capitals 90-86 on Saturday. They backed this up with a dominant 90-67 victory over the Bendigo Spirit on Sunday, to help the Venom win their first-ever piece of WNBL silverware.

The Fire kept their perfect TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off record intact on Sunday, edging the Sydney Flames 80-77. This win at the Murray Sporting Complex moved them to 2-0 at the 2026 event and 4-0 overall across the two pre-season tournaments. Against the Flames, the Fire started the stronger of the two rivals, to lead 22-17 at quarter-time. Renae Garlepp's side hit back in a big way in the second, outscoring the reigning champions 26-19 to carry a two-point lead into half-time.
