An Indigenous Present is an exhibition at the Frist Art Museum spanning 100 years of modern and contemporary indigenous art, and featuring 15 artists who use abstraction to represent personal and collective narratives. The gallery will close on Sunday, September 27 with events highlighting the exhibit throughout the month starting tomorrow, September 3, with Frist Films: Reframing the Narrative – Indigenous Filmmakers in Focus.

“Here come the pints.” The indie duo Hovvdy wanted to meet at a bar to talk about their new album. With the smell of corned beef in the air and Van Morrison on the speakers, Will Taylor and Charlie Martin, raised a couple glasses of Guinness into the air at 2 in the afternoon on a Tuesday at McNamara’s Irish Pub in Donelson. “Cheers, boys. Cheers. Look at this beautiful pour right here.” Two years ago, Hovvdy released their self-titled album. And it is a masterpiece.

Transcript: MICHEL MARTIN, HOST: Dolly Parton was never afraid to reinvent herself, and she did that again after she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She didn’t think she deserved the honor, so she went and made a rock album in 2023. It’s the time of the year for Superbloom when the meadows in Shelby Bottoms are typically in peak bloom from late August to early September, with classic bright yellow tickseed sunflower and occasional bright purple ironweed. ”If you start at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center, that’s a really great place to start, and you take the one-mile loop that goes around to the observation deck, and that is the field where you have the most blooms,” executive director of Friends of Shelby Rebecca Ratz said.

Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. The artist’s death was confirmed in a statement from her representatives, as well as in a video posted to social media from her nephew Bryan Seaver.

Houston Kendrick has never been a timid performer. Even so, his new music finds him flexing his expressive range more vigorously. Take the song “Paper Doll.” There’s no instrumental intro to set the tone. Instead, he opts for an instantly striking opening, animating the track’s first 18 seconds with anguished, operatic lines sung in a stratospheric register.
